Get your Marriage License ASAP!

Friendly nudge...if you are getting married in MN this summer...go pick up a marriage license SOON! If the government shuts down on July 1 you won't be able to get one! There is a 5 day waiting period so do it soon! Don't worry, it'll last for 6 months.

The statewide shutdown will actually not effect county functions. You will be able to still get a license. But make sure your drivers license is renewed!

I heard this on the radio this morning as well! They didn't say it'd be shut down, only that it'll be a longer waiting period.

I didn't realize there was a 5 day wait period...don't want to take my chances with anything, so looks like this will be getting done this week!

Marriage licenses are good for six months so if you're getting married within that time frame, I'd go ASAP! We got ours within a week, but that was a month ago.

Dang, I need to get the letter from our marriage counselor first! I am not going to see her again for another 2 weeks... I will have to call today and see if I can get the letter now, then we can go get our license paperwork filed.

<div>This is what I figured too, but I called Ramsey County this morning and the woman I spoke to said she had no idea how it may affect licencing and could not give a difinitive yes or no answer. I was suprised by this. Yes county services are different from state but with the way things are intertwined, who knows, or maybe she, herself, just didn't know. So I guess better safe than sorry or call your county and see if you can get a difinitive answer if you are getting hitched in the next month or two. Tha last gov shut down in 2005 was eight days. </div>

I'm a long ago Knottie, but I still read the boards occasionally.

I work for a metro county.  We just got a letter from our board today about the shutdown.  It said that the local county run licening centers would NOT stay open as they would not get reimbursed from the state for the work done and any work done that is STATE licensing would not be processed once they completed their work.Additionally, most County govenrments got reimbursed the last time the state shut down for any work that they did while the state was down.  This time the state is telling local governements that they WILL NOT get reimbursed as there is no money.

So, please go get your license within the next couple of days if you're planning on getting married in July or August.  Don't take the chance that the county govenment will suck up the money and stay open.

I wouldn't worry too much. The court can always override the wait period if you go in front of a judge. My fiance isn't flying into Minnesota until September 1st for our September 10th wedding. With labor day in there, there are exactly 5 business days in between. I asked the judge marrying us about what happens if his flight gets delayed or something, and she said it's no big deal if we have to go in front of a judge. Judges approve these kind of things all the time (it just can't be the judge marrying you if you have a judge as your officiant).

I would ask the judge marrying you what he or she thinks. If he or she is not worried, then I wouldn't be either.

[QUOTE]My personal recommendation is to try to stay in town if you can, even if it's a skeezy notell motel.Weather up here is SO unpredictable in November and the traffic getting in and out of town is CRAZY on game day.  I would hate for you to miss the whole point of being here just because of some crappy storm blowing in last minute or a traffic accident keeping you stuck in West Fork.  However, if you do really want to stay in a cabin, I'd google Beaver Lake cabins and see what you can find.  Just be warned that Beaver Lake can either mean Rogers/Bentonville or it can mean Eureaka Springs, which is a considerable difference in drive time to the game.Good Luck!

If you happen to be getting married in Hennepin County, I believe the Southdale Service Center (on York Ave. across from Target) has Saturday hours where you can file.  HTH!

Did things change since my '09 wedding?  When I applied for the marriage license, only one of the people getting married needed to be there (you do need the other person's SSN) to fill out the form and pay the fee.  I was laid off at the time so I just went by myself one afternoon and took care of it.

**** Updated *** looked it up online and it did indeed change!  Bummer - that makes it challenging to coordinate for people who are from all over!!

This sucks! My fiance travels for work and wont be home until Sunday so we wont be able to get it before the shutdown. I really hope the government doesn't stay shutdown for long. I only have 38 days left until my wedding. Frown
