Name Change

What's the steps to changing your name?  What do you need to change first?  License, Social Security, Passport, etc.  I believe I read somewhere on the boards you need to wait til you get your marriage license back which could take a month or so.  TIA!

Yep, you have to wait for your marriage license to do anything.  Ours was actually waiting in the mail when we got back from our HM the following week (Anoka county).

I changed my SS and license first (I don't have a passport).  SS took two weeks and my license was about 3 weeks.  Once you have those, you can start...and I've been changing things ever since...I think I'm almost done, ugh!  What a PITA :)

It doesn't really matter what you do first although I'd wait on your passport until you have your SSN and DL changed.  I personally did my license, my SSN, and then passport but none of the above can get changed until you have the real copy of your marriage license.  And you'll have to provide an original copy of your marriage license with your passport application but you will get it back eventually.  Mine came back about a week after my new passport did.

I bookmarked this page back in the day, before I decided to keep my maiden name :)
