MOB attire?

I was wondering what your mothers wore to your wedding or plan to wear.  Like what style and color of dress. Our wedding is during the day on July 31, 2010 and my mom is thinking about maybe wearing black tea length.  I heard black is a new popular color for MOB to wear.  I think it might be too dark for a summer wedding during the day, but I think she might look best in black.

My mom is wearing a really light yellow, which is what we planned on having the BMs wear originally but now they are wearing black floor length dresses. I think black is definitely acceptable any time of the year now! But I do think tea length is a tad bit less casual then floor length so if your wedding is more formal or if your BM are floor length, I would have your mom wear floor length, JMO!  I'm sure my FMIL will wear black since that is in our theme.

My mom is having a dress made by the Dressmaker. Hers will be black lace, knee length. Our wedding is in the afternoon on July 3rd. I think as long as the dress sorta fits the formality of what you are going for, it should totally be fine (like Veijes said, if BMs are floor-length, you may want hers to be too). If you are afraid of it being too formal or dark-looking, then going with something shorter (knee-length) may be more appropriate.

my mom tried on one of our rejected bridesmaid dresses while we were at POB and ended up buying it on the spot. it's black, knee length and seriously hotttttttt! I want MOB and MOH - and everyone else - to be comfortable in what they were wearing, so when they asked for suggestions I just told them to wear what they like and feel good in. Turns out they are both wearing black.
I think it really is about what works for them and I suggest giving them some leeway on it. If black is what your mom likes/is comfortable in I think it will be great, even in the summer. she'll be happy and that will make her look fab! i don't think anyone will think it's odd or doesn't fit. black is everywhere in weddings now.
Just tell her she can't wear white

My mom just sent me a picture of her dress and it's a Bronzey color dress.  Currently it's long, but she will make it knee length as we are having an outdoor wedding in June.

I personally want her to wear a black cocktail dress, but she really likes this dress so I most likely will not say anything.

we are getting married outside on July 10th and my mom has picked out two knee length dresses as well. they look very dresses but contemporary and mroe importantly she feels good in them. i would say whatever your mom is most comfortable in and feels the most beautiful then go for it also a hint if your mom is looking for knee length i think high end department stores tend to have more of a selection in that style than bridal shops. I went to qite a few this weekend and most of them were floor length.

Let your mother wear whatever she wants to wear...she has been dressing herself her whole life...I think she can handle it.

I know my mom wants guidance on what she should wear. Obviously mothers are able to dress themselves, but some mom's appreciate input.

Yeah, if she asks it's fine to give input, but the OP said that her mom wants to wear black. In that case, she should wear black. End of story.

My mom wore a floor length black tulip skirt and a dark teal wrap jacket with a black privacy panel sewn in.  We had an afternoon wedding in June, but she coordinated really well with my sisters/brother/dad who were wearing black and/or and turquoise for the wedding.
