BOOKS

I will start this topic up again, at least a few times.  I'm always looking for good book recommendations, and Enchanted's post in the TGIF thread reminded me.

Anyone else have a Kindle? Have you tried that new lending feature? If so, anyone wanna start a little book club/sharing with me? :)

One of the girls  on SB started a little one through GoodReads, and I'm addicted to the website now (goodreads, that is.)

If no kindle, you should still tell me a few of the good books you've read recently.

Only some.  I have a bunch of pdf books and those I can't.  I also have a few I've purchased from Amazon, only one of which is lendable right now.  "Mockingjay", the last of the Hunger Games series.

If you go to 'my account' on Amazon, then "manage my Kindle", you should see the list of 'legal' books on your Kindle.  There's a little + by each one.  When you click on that, you'll see a blue "lend this book" option by the ones that are eligible.

I just found out all of this earlier this week :)

oooo - extra incentive to get my Kindle!  It was between that and a K-cup coffee maker, and FI opted for the coffee maker for Christmas (which I LOVE, and prob is for the best until done with school!  As if TK wasn't a distraction enough :)!)

I'll keep an eye on this - maybe he can do my b-day present early! lol

The Shack was a good read.  A couple of my fav books from high school were In the Time of the Butterflies and the House of the Spirts (la casa de los espiritus) I believe both are by Isabel Allende.  Both were wonderful reads.  Do they Hear you when you Cry? --memoir and favorite book ever but I probably mentioned that last time.

No Kindle for me.  Still not sure if I would get one.  I like the feel of a book & it's weird to say, but I think books smell really good.  Old books just have this great smell to them...I can't explain it at all, but I love it!! = )

Steph - I'm on Shelfari, (looks similar to goodreads).  Here's the link to my shelf for some recommendations!  http://www.shelfari.com/andrea0619

Right now I'm re-reading the first Harry Potter book.  My mom got me the box set for Christmas!  I just read The Double Bind, by Chris Bohjalian & really liked that. I'm also going to start reading In The Woods, by Tana French.

I just finished reading the book "Vision in White" by Nora Roberts.  It's a romance novel about a wedding photographer! Very good book!
There is a second one called "Bed of Roses" by the same author that is a part of this two book series. Just started reading this one).

I don't have the kindle, but I would recommend both of these books :)

I've read these also!  There's four books in the series.  They're really good!

No Kindle for me.  I'm still working my way through Angela's Ashes, same as last time we posted about books.  I've got a stack of magazines a foot high to get through, so most of my reading has been bridal stuff.

I read a lot of chic lit/fluff.  My favorites are anything by Marian Keyes or Jen Lancaster.  Tim Gunn's new one is really good, too, if you're as obsessed with all things Project Runway like I am.

I've been into the classics lately. I'm working on "Anna Karina" and I read a christmas carol before christmas. Someone told me to read the hunger games, has anyone read those?

Jess-  I read a little bit of everything, and I've read a ton of stuff.... and Hunger Games is top 5 favorite books ever.  (all three of them actually.)  It was written as YA, but it's good enough that you'll enjoy it even if you're over the age of 15 ;)

I just read 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' by Garth Stein. It is a book written from the perspective of a labrador, about his owner and his family. It's a very sweet book and a quick read. Made me cry a little at the end, but in a good way. It was a nice change of pace, reading a book from the perspective of a dog!

I'm just starting 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' right now, hopefully it will live up to its hype!

I have read the first two books from the Hunger Games series and I agree they are really good!! My only issue is that whenever I see "Katniss" I automatically think "Catpiss". Ugh I hate her name!

As far as recommendations, the Vampire Diaries books are entertaining and good!!

And I love love love Lee Childs Jack Reacher series- so great!

I've been on a vampire/supernatural kick lately and a friend recommended several series to me that I literally have been reading at break-neck spead.  The Mercy Thomspon series (female werecoyote mechanic hangs with werewolves, vampires, and fairies...feels Sookie Stackhouse-ish) and the Chicagoland Vampire series (female soldier vampire battles for love with sorceress sidekick...feels a little Stephanie Plum-ish) were both really, really fun.  Lots of characters and plot twists to keep it entertaining.  My friend also highly recommended the Kushiel's Dart series, but I haven't read those yet.  Last year, I read the House of Night series (high school girl turns into super vamp and battles evil....feels like it would make a good WB show), and that was pretty entertaining.

Oh, I loved Girl With the Dragon Tattoo! The second book in the series (my KUI, husbandless for the weekend self can't remember what it's called) is great too, I've yet to read the third one.

They're super easy, fluffy, light reads, but I love Janet Evanovich - especially the Stephanie Plum series; One for the Money, Two for the Dough, etc...

Also, The Five People You Meet in Heaven is good. It's pretty short, so it might be a nice break in between books in a series.

I always end up reading like 3 books at once somehow.

I got Let's Bring Back for by birthday last month. It has been a delight. It is an "encyclopedia" of nostalgic items that the author thinks we should resurrect-- stuff like garter belts, hat boxes, and calling cards.

Sense and Sensibility. I'm a total Janeite

Royal Spyness Mysteries-- a really fun series set in 1930s London. They are really light hearted and just a little naughty.

I was just thinking about writing a post asking for good read suggestions, too! I guess great minds think alike! I don't have a Kindle, but now I have a list of a ton of books to rent from the library, hehe! Right now, I am reading "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. Absolutely love it! It is in the non-fiction section since it's technically a memoir, but it reads like a fiction book.
