How to choose...

a photographer?? There are SO many!  I've inquired after three at this time, but there are others that I like as well.  Any recommendations?  We are looking for a mix of posed and candids, with a photojournalistic style.  I would like to have 2 photographers all day.  We are also looking for e-pcs as well.  I would say 3k would be the absolute max to spend.  I don't want to skimp on a photographers but I don't want to blow my budget either! If it helps, I LOVE Spencer Combs style, but he is too pricey for us!

You'll have many photographers to choose from with a budget of $3,000.

Keep the following things in mind:  your budget, the photographer's style, experience, professionalism, availability, and most important is how connected you feel to the photographer.  This person will be tailing you all day, you definitely want someone that you connect with.

Ditto PP, though, at $3k you'll have a lot to choose. Ours were $1k when we booked, but I think they're about 2k now; for two photogs all day and all rights to your photos.

You know - if I had that kind of budget I might take a different approach.  Could you purchase 2 sets of engagement photo sessions and choose between whoever you end up liking better?  It's a smaller time investment, you can certainly use the pics for a lot of different things and it might be a minimal investment to try and help you decide if you really are stuck.  With $3000 you can really get a great package!

If you're looking for photojournalistic SnapGrin is a great recommendation. Their all day package plus e-pics is $2k. That is a great price, and they are super nice.

We're using Ben Berndt Photography.  He is well within your price range.  We also looked at Heidi Soll and liked her as well.  Again, well within your price range.

I would keep looking at photographer's blogs and websites and get a feel for a few you like.  Then meet with them and go with the one you connect with on a personal level.  I think that is important.  With 3K you will have a lot of choices.  I felt like we had a lot and we were looking for someone around 2K or less.

    Good luck!

I'll second Ben Berndt.  He did our photos, and I was extremely pleased.  He was really nice to work with, too.  I also used Dana Schoppe Photography for my rehearsal.  She did a fantastic job as well.  She's especially great with kids.

I have pics posted under e-pics and pro-pics in my bio.

Hi highly recommend Britt from Render Photography! She's got the style it sounds like you're looking for and is well within your budget. Ditto PP on needing to click with your photographer. Make sure to meet with the ones you are most interested in!

I'll give a shout-out to our photographers, Dan and Karin with DnKPhotograpghy.  They are a little more than $2500 for 10 hours with 2 photographers and engagement pics.  We ABSOLUTELY loved them - and you can check out my bio for lots of engagement and wedding pics.

What I did was spend a while checking out photographer blogs and websites (a LONG while...I love looking at people's wedding pictures) and then I emailed by 5-10 favorites.  I met with 5 photographers, and "clicked" best with Dan and Karin.

I'm not going to suggest my photographer, because his style is not the same as Spencer Combs... but I will tell you how we chose. I spent crazy huge amounts of time on photog blogs and narrowed it down to about six choices. After checking pricing and availability, we narrowed it down to three. Then it was meet-in-person time. As soon as we left our meeting with our photographer, we knew he was the right fit for us. We felt comfortable and had chemistry with him, and I felt that he was open to my ideas. It was a gut-reaction thing.
