Jeweler in MSP area that does custom... affordably?

Hi Knotties- I'm looking for recommendations for local jewelers who do custom wedding bands. I have some rings from my mother I'd like repurposed into a band for myself.

I've gotten 1 quote from a fancy spot downtown, and it was kind of shocking $2,600 for the band (with all materials suplied to them!)

So wondering if anyone's had luck with this and price seemed fair.

Thanks a lot!

  • We haven't used them personally, but I've heard good things about Knox Jewelers in Uptown - they seem to do a lot of custom work.

  • My parents have purchased several custom pieces from Johnson Jewelers in Woodbury.  The first time they wanted something made they shopped around quite a bit before buying but subsequently just went there because they were so happy with the craftsmanship.

    Good luck!

  • How "custom" are you talking?  I had my mother's ring made at Helzberg.  It was what i was looking for, and it was very reasonable.
  • Calibud- I have an idea of what I want, but I need it completely crafted from scratch. They'd have to dis assemble the rings and melt the gold down and all that.

Helzberg, hadn't thought of them, thanks!
  • We didn't go that custom, but I would recommend checking out Arthur's Jewelers. Both H and I had great experiences buying each other's rings there.

  • We used Robert Foote at 50th and France in Edina and have LOVED working with Robert and his wife Kim. We initially thought (due to the location) that their prices would be excessive, but they have been great, and right away said they happily work with any budget  - and they really mean it. Everything is done in-house, and Robert can pretty much do anything you can think of.
  • Thurston Jewelry in Uptown. Locally owned, and reasonable prices but does great work!
  • I also say try Arthurs. I don't know how custom they get, but they were able to do great work with H's band that was both silver and rose gold and had tons of etched scrollwork-- a very hard piece to adjust.
