BM dresses

What have all of you been doing for BM dresses? I don't want to make them spend too much on their dresses, but I also kind of want them to have the flexibility to find a style that will look good on them and I'll just choose the color. There will be some variations in body type and I really want all of them to feel like they have a flattering dress. All of the BMs live out of state. I'm hoping to only have them spend about $100 just because I hate that they'll be spending so much on travel and accommodations when they're here. Alfred Angelo seems to have a lot of variety and then I can choose the color, but I'm afraid they'll be too expensive. The last thing I want to do is turn into a bridezilla! :-) What have all of you been doing?

Mine was pretty easy because it was just my two sisters.  We all went shopping together and they found a dress that they both liked and I liked too.  Then it was just a matter of me picking a color.  We found ours at the Wedding Shoppe and I think that they were just over $100. 

When I was in my sister's wedding, she started by asking each of us what we would feel most comfortable in.  I asked for a dress with straps for instance.  Then when we went shopping, she had that list in mind as we all looked.  It worked out in the end - the dresses she found didn't have straps but she wanted them tea length so the extra fabric that was removed was easily fashioned into straps. 

The other option you could try is just telling them to find their own dress as long as it is "x" color and then you know that what they will wear will fit them and they'll like it.

I am only have one bridesmad and told her to find something she liked in bright blue, it ended up being from David's and around $120.

I only had a MOH, and she wore a black dress she already had. You could consider just picking guidelines (any black knee-length dress in a non-shiny fabric, for instance; or a floor length dress in David's Bridal lapis, perhaps) and just letting them pick their own. If you want them all to match, you should ask them each what their budget is individually, then make sure you pick a dress that fits in the lowest budget.

I told my bridesmaids to find a blue dress in any shade of blue they liked. I didn't want to ask their budget for BM dresses (I know some of my BM well enough to know they don't like talking about it), so I skipped it and let them decide that they liked in the price they could afford. I had a wide range of body types too, so I felt like they would know what fits their body the best. So far 4/5 BM have bought dresses from David's bridal and one bought a Kennedy Blue dress from the Wedding Shoppe.

It's a site where you can rent bridesmaids dresses for $50 or $75. I'm strongly considering doing this for my wedding next May and my sisters (bridesmaids) seem to be on board with not having to buy a dress they'll never wear again!

Target.com actually carries a bridesmaid dress line.  I ordered the shorter v-neck for my sisters (to try first).  It fit one but not the other.  We ended up going w/JCrew (if you sign up for email, you can get 10% off your order).  You could always order a few different styles from Target and see what fits the ladies best (or let them choose from a few different styles) and return in the store.  I think they $60-$70 range and at least LOOK like a more expensive brand.  Good luck!
