NWR - holiday tipping

Hi ladies, I was just wondering what is common around here for tipping your hairstylists near the holidays.  I keep seeing tipping guidelines online, and they always say to tip the cost of one visit.  So now that I've been highlighting my hair, and my visits are over $100, I need to give that much as a tip?  That seems like an awful lot, so I wanted to see if that's what you all really do!
Thanks!

It really all depends. Becuase my stylist is my best friend's mom I typically do around $50, but that is more than what I would just give someone in say the Regis Salon etc. If you are truly connected to the stylist then I would say an "extra" Christmas tip would be greatly appreciated, but otherwise just give what you would typically give and maybe a little more. That's the way I would go

I was a stylist for 10 years and most of my clients would give me a card with about 20% of their service total AND they would still tip me on the service I did for them.  So a total of $40 on a $100 tab.  But do what you are comfortable with.  I think putting something extra in a card is a really nice gesture, no matter what the amount is.

I always tip 20% on every visit I have with my hairstylist.  For the holidays, you can do a little more, but you don't have too if your not close or it's not a stylist you see on a regular basis.
