The Saint Paul Hotel! they're a Saint Paul institution. They have an on sight catering manager who will take care of things for you and its useful to have an easy place for your guests to stay. They do have a minimum for food and drink that varies based on the date and space at the hotel.

The Historic Washington County Courthouse in Stillwater.

The venue is gorgeous without being stuffy or over-the-top... and was literally one of the best maintained spaces we saw (seriously, there are some hellaciously expensive venues that we looked at that had peeling paint, dirty floors, and leaky toilets). Also, Stillwater is just an awesome town to get married in. It was like a little destination wedding 20 minutes from home :-)

Another perk is that they allow you to make all of your own decisions regarding vendors, and you can bring in your own beer and wine (you just have to have someone serve it... they don't even have to be a licensed bartender.)

The prices have inevitably gone up this year, but I can't seem to find the new rates. When I got married last October, it was $1300 for Fridays, $1500 for Saturdays, and $1000 for Sundays.

Picked b/c it is beautiful and cheap.  To rent it is a max of $450 (for 250ppl) and goes down if the GL is smaller.  There is no food and bev min so you have options if your budget unexpectedly drops or something.

    Goodluck!

Room rental is 850.00 (for Saturday, cheaper for Fri and Sunday), can hold up to 300 ppl I believe (maybe 275) and the food and beverage minimum for a Sat. is $5,000.00.

    Elm Creek Park Reserve Chalet

We picked them because we loved the look & feel of the space.  We can bring in our own food & it was in our price range, around $1850 for a Friday wedding.

Crystal Lake Golf Course in Lakeville, MN

This was the only venue we visited but once we walked in, I felt it was the place.  Its about 25/pp for a served dinner.  The FB mim is 2,000 in off season and 4,000 during wedding season.  I can't remember the room rental fee but I think its lik 800.00.  Diane and Victoria are great to work with.  The food is fantastic. If you want more specific details, PM me. :)

It hasn't been finalized yet, but I am pretty sure that we will be hosting both the ceremony and reception at the St. Croix Vineyard and Aamodts Apple Farm in Stillwater.
We choose this space because it holds a special place in my heart as we have been going there since I can remember and I absolutely love what they have to offer.
We have a small party, around 30 people (but I believe they will host much larger groups as well) and our rental fee is only $750 which includes a glass of wine for everyone. We are allowed to bring in any caterer and since we have such a small group, are willing to work with us with hosting the reception in the Vineyards.

    HTH and GL!

The Profile Event Center - Diamond Hall! I didn't want a traditional banquet hall style reception - I wanted something more fun and modern, and being a tech theatre major in college, I knew I wanted a space that could have awesome lighting and sound. PEC has all of this, and it's all included! No outside rental for lighting or sound, which was a huge plus for me. There's no rental fee as long as you hit the catering minimums (listed on their website - www.profileeventcenter.com), and you can bring in your own alcohol. I knew it was *the* place for us when I toured it last year. I can't wait to show it to FI next week when we're in MN! :)

Columbia Manor in Northeast Minneapolis!  Primary reasons why we chose it were because it was a beautiful hall, had gorgeous woodwork, interestingly divided spaces and a pretty reasonable initial rental rate.  Full post-wedding review in bio...

Current rental rate for Saturdays in peak season is $1050+tax plus additional fees based on your food and alcohol costs that they don't detail out very well in their rental info packet.  We had 200 guests and the food+linens+dishes was about $8,000 plus another $1,500 for alcohol.

We went for the North Shore wedding. Grand Superior Lodge. The room rental I seem to recall was not much, basically included in the package.

Here is a link to the other sites we looked at up north:

Mine is also the Links at Northfork. A bunch of pics are in my bio. We chose this because it is a great space, location was good since we have a lot of OOT people from up north so northern metro was ideal, holds enough people for us, and the price was right. We should be able to have 200 pp and spend between 5-6 K. The minimum of 5K for a Saturday also includes taxes and service charges, which I know of other places that do not do this.

The Landmark Center in downtown St Paul, next to Rice Park. I chose it because it has the perfect old elegance that I am looking for. We are in the winter and it has a great feel for a winter romantic wedding. Rental fee is higher than what I got it for I know, because we were able to secure the 2009 pricing RIGHT before they upped it for 2011. It is a little higher than $2000 for a weekend wedding I believe. They do let you bring in any licensed caterer though.

We chose Courtyards of Andover in Andover, MN.  There were several reasons we chose them. They are within 10 minutes of thr church, the venue is beautiful and will very comfortably hold of 300 guest list. Also they are really friendly and easy to work with.  They are customizing our food to something my FI used to cook (when he worked at a banquet hall) and still keeping it at a very reasonable price.  The room deposit was $750 and the food and bev minimum was around $5,000 for a Saturday wedding. We will have no problem hitting that though with between 250 and 300 guests.

I have a pick in my bio under venues.

Ditto to maybe and graysquirrel on the Courthouse!  LOVE it.  FI is actually the one who fell in love first and decided it was perfect.  Right now it's $1700 for Sat and $1000 for Sun.  I don't remember Fri right off hand.  Those prices include rental for ceremony and reception.

We chose Edinburgh golf course in Brooklyn Park...they don't have a room reservation fee, they refund you for kegs/bottles you don't use, and it looks like a castle from the outside (disney fan here ). They did have a 7000 food and bev. minimum, but the wedding cake can be applied to that, and we figured we will reach that no problem with 200 guest list

Ours will be at Afton Alps Ski Lodge - Chalet Lounge. It ha gorgeous views of the hill and is very serene! I went to prom there 7 years ago and LOVED it! Plus, it's really cheap and Brendon, the coordinator, is so flexible and open to helping me in any way he can. The rental is 850 for Saturday, and the buffet starts at about $14 and you get so much food! It's amazing! I'm so glad we have it there! Good luck! :)

My FI and I are getting married in Sept. 2012 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center.  We loved the ambiance and it fits nicely with our "rustic" theme as it is old farm land that has been preserved.

We like that there are no rental fees as long as you meet the food/beverage minimum, and there is an Embassy Suites next door that there are currently building a skyway to so that guests won't even need to go outside to get to their rooms!  It is the best scenario for us because all of our family is from out-of-town but we didn't want to have our reception IN a hotel itself.

We are having 110 guests and the room we are using has a $3,500 food/beverage minimum for a Saturday ($3,000 on Friday or Sunday).  We love that the food is in-house and that they are passionate about local, organic food and sustainable farming.  There are other rooms of various sizes- ours is the smallest room for weddings.  We also looked at the Harvest Room which is stunning and seats more than 200 people with a food/beverage minimum of $6,000.

It is also less than 10 minutes from our wedding ceremony and we  love how friendly and helpful the women who work with couples there are.  It has been a breeze!

    GL on your search!

We're at the Ramada Plaza in Minneapolis (on Industrial Blvd). It's perfect because we're having a fairly large wedding (inviting 340) and were having trouble finding a venue that was big enough that fit in our budget. The grand ballroom holds 400 (and has partitions so it can be split into a smaller room for smaller events). There is a $3500 food and beverage minimum (I think) but their meals are very reasonably priced and there is no room rental fee. They offer an $89 or $99 room rental for your guests for the weekend which was also great since a lot of my family is out of town. The ballroom is connected to the hotel but is fairly well-removed. It even has its own parking lot. The overall setup is fantastic and certain centerpieces (such as mirrors and different colored lamps) are available free of charge. Ask for Stephanie, she's great!

Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake.  We chose it because their prices were VERY reasonable, AND their facilities are gorgeous.  They have 3 different rooms to choose from, their food selections are delicious and their staff was amazing!!!  I can't say enough good things about them!  They worked with us on price and our entire reception AND ceremony (we had both there) was $5,000 for 110 guests.   Everything was perfect - and the waitstaff even brought me advil at the head table during our reception because I had a headache  ;)

Our reception was at the W Hotel- Foshay. Food minimum was $15,000. Didn't need to decorate a thing in the room though. The hotel itself was gorgous.. ProPics should be here ANY day!

We looked at Majestic Oaks in Ham Lake but were disappointed with how the super cute bridge outside looked like it was going to break and sink.  The deck was also cracked and you would have to share it with the other ballroom.  The room was pretty though and I think they had a $5500 food minimum, $550 room fee, and $750 ceremony fee.  The pergola was a really pretty ceremony site and there was also a gazebo site.

Right now our top choice is Edinburgh in Brooklyn Park.  $7000 food minimum but no room fee. $350 for a ceremony on the deck overlooking the golf course.  The ballroom is a tad bit dark but I bet with all the tulle and lights it brightens up.  If you use Buttercream for your cake you can apply that to the food minimum.  They offer a lot of decor packages and you can rent centerpieces, specialty linens, a candy bar, and even truffle favors.

We have a hold on Edinburgh and go pick up the contract tomorrow so we'll see!  Good luck on your decision
