Spray Tans

Hey guys!

I've never ever tanned in my existence. I've always been blessed with easy-to-tan-in-the-sun type of skin, but these days I really don't have time to lay out every day.

I would go to a tanning bed but same thing -- don't have time to consistently do it several days a week. So I'm thinking spray tan?

Any recommendations??

Re: Spray Tans

  • I dont know if you have a planet beach up there, but that is where I go to spray tan here and it doesn't turn you orange.  I would definately check recommendations online before going somewhere because some of the sprays can turn you orang-er than you might want.  It lasts about 5 days or so depending on sweating and scrubbing in the shower.

  • I went to Carribean Beach in St. Cloud and loved it! I wasn't orange at all, just a nice light tan. It's so easy and inexpensive when you think about how much you spend to lay in a bed to get that tan (and safer!). I didn't have any problems with streaking or having it rub off, though my dress for the formal I got it for was pink so it would have been less noticable than it would be if I were wearing a wedding dress (I don't think that's why you were asking but I know that's a common question!).

  • Different formulas will effect each individual person's skin a little different.  The best advice I have is to start early on. If you are unhappy with the results at the first place you try . . .call ahead to others and find another that uses another manufacturer or formula and try those results.  Once you find one you like, go a few times before your wedding to get used to how the color looks on you and fades over time becuase the results you have instantly or before you shower will be darker that what it ends up like after it settles.

The other thing to consider is if you want a booth spray tan vs a person who actually spray tans you.  The booth spray tans much less expensive and lasst longerand better than a person who custom spray tans you. BUT- a custom spray tan can even out any trouble spots and wil look more brown toned and natural than a booth spray tan.  The color will fade a bit more in a few days, becuase a custom spray tan is designed more for specific one time events not consistent use.  You may want to try both and compare.

Either way- MAKE SURE to spray tan a few days before you wedding!  If you are getting married on a Saturday, I would recommend spray tanning on a Thrusday and showering sometime Friday.

    A few recommendations:

For Booth spray tans, I like Palm Beach tan (in Eden Prairie and Edina I know- maybe other places as well) and SunWerks in Uptown (Lake Calhoun) and St Paul.

For custom spray tans, Brett Dorian (who does wedding make up as well) offers an organic custom spray tan.  I've never had it- but have heard it is amazing but pricey.
  • I went to Darque tan the one time I spray tanned  It turned out amazing.  My skin doesn't tan, I'm very pale, and it look natural.

  • I've only done it a couple times, and I haven't gone in years, but I was happy with my results. And I'm sure the product and technology has improved since then, so I'd bet it's even better now. I would definitely test it before a big event (I'm guessing you're thinking for your wedding, but maybe I'm wrong) to make sure it doesn't do anything funky on my skin. Also, I remember using a lotion with acne treatment ingredients on my chest before I went one of the times, and the area where I used the lotion was a little blotchy. So I would just be careful what you put on your skin before you go.

  • I recommend that you do an airbrush vs. Mystic Tan. The coverage is much more natural, even and you end up with less streaking and less of an orangey tint.

Whatever you do make sure you sleep in crappy sheets/clothes the first night you are sprayed as some of it will transfer.

I usually go to Planet Beach in Maple Grove but a lot of places are doing the airbrush tan's by hand and run anywhere from $45-$60 per tan.
