Photo Sharing sites - Problems??

I've seen a few people mention on here that having something at your wedding for guests to take that has a login for a photo sharing site (such as snapfish or whatever) and ask them to upload pics from your wedding - does not always go very well.  I am thinking about doing it but am curious what kinds of problems people would run in to?

Obviously I have not gone through this yet, since my weddings not until June, but if I remember correctly people just said that their guests just didn't really utilize the photo sharing sites or just put the pics on Facebook.  I don't think there was really any technical difficulties or confusion.  I think people just ignored the cards/never picked one up/never bothered to go to the photo sharing websites.

I believe another person had problems with a site not allowing them to save them to their computer.
I can't remember the site though. In that case I would print the pictures with a CD and load them that way... may be annoying though. It was free (okay almost like $5) for us to put it together so we are doing it - even if our guests don't use it.

I did some research on this as well and had posted previously about it.  A lot of the photo sharing websites allow you to upload photos, but not download them.  So if your guest saw a great picture they were in, they wouldn't be able to download the file without paying a fee to the website.  We decided on Flickr, because I liked the interface the best (most user friendly, IMO) and its only $25/year to have unlimited uploading and downloading.  We simply created an account, and made business cards to hand out/mail out with the user name and password to the photos.  Maybe not many people will use it, but I'm really hoping that some will!  Our friends are very camera-happy and I know they'll get some great pictures :)

I looked for ability to download high res copies straight from the internet when I was looking at sites. I ended up going with Kodak Gallery because of the ability to do that (and it is free).

I would also set up a wedding email address and just create an account on that photo site so your guests can just log straight in.

I had a grand total of 5 guests actually upload pics. Now while 5 out of 161 guests sounds really bad, I was SO glad to have those pictures, especially when it took a month for my pro pics to come back. I also didnt download all of them (about 800 pics were uploaded by those 5 people) - just the ones that I thought were potentially worthy of making my wedding photo books.

I also took my friends cameras and just uploaded their pics straight onto my computer during our day after brunch so I got about 6 more people's pics that way - so in total if they would have used the site (which they prolly would have) I still would have only had 11 people use it. But for the $5 it cost me to make the cards, if I would have gotten even one really good pic I wouldnt have gotten otherwise it was worth it to me and I got a lot more than that even just from the 5 people that uploaded.

Lastly, we put a stack of postcard sized photo sharing cards out on the guest book table and also included business card sized one in TY cards.

    HTH!

We did business cards next to the guest book and sent them out in the thank yous.  I had 2 people do it.  We used shutterfly.  In order to post to their site, the poster either has to already have a shutterfly account or input their email addy and stuff.  I didn't want to make everyone do that I created a gmail account for our wedding they could use that would give them access. For us personally, it wasn't worth the trouble in the end.  I still use the site to hold our backup copies of our photog's high res pics but it really didnt' end up working like we'd hoped it would.
