skin care

I am wondering if anyone found some good product that has helped even out their skin tones and helped decrease break outs. My skin is kinda oily and I am finding that I have some scarring from previous acne which I'd like to minimize if possible and I also continue to get blemishes. I've tried several different products, but I'm just looking for any other suggestions to try...I'll try pretty much anything :)

There is a post below on this as well, but I highly suggest L'athene - I have been using it all summer and it seems to be helping a lot.  I use a clindamycin cream every morning, and Retin-A micro every other day in the evening.  I also get microdermabrasion and Jessner peels.  Recovery time for the peel is about a week, though - so make sure you don't have anyone to impress immediately afterward!

I used to use a product called zapzyt for pimples. Out of everything I'd ever tried, including Proactive, it was the best stuff. It is a little tube of cream and you can get it for really cheap at Walmart. I only stopped using it because I became allergic to it after starting BC for some reason. It has worked very well for my acne prone brother, too.

I use Proactiv, but I have to occasionally swap it out with other products otherwise it just completely stops working. My skin has always done that though... if I use a certain product for too long... my skin rebels against it. If something moisturizes it too much, I get acne... but if something dries it out too much... I get even worse acne.

My latest find was a new Neutrogena cleanser. It's the "Redness Soothing Cream Cleanser." It does a pretty great job, but if it's hot outside, I have to make sure to use both a decent toner and a light mositurizer to make sure I don't get too greasy or too dry.

Also, buy a bottle of witch hazel. You can get it for like $1 at Walgreen's... and to date... it's the best astringent/toner I've ever come across.

Using a face scrub helps even out skin tone and unclog pores, plus your skin feels really smooth afterward :-) I've even found it to reduce acne scars on my face. Exfoliating can make all the difference.

Neutrogena products have always worked well for me, like the Blackhead Eliminating scrub.

Before I got off BC dermalogical worked really well for me. They have travel sizes too if you want to try it out first before getting the large supplies.

I would also recommend getting a facial at the Aveda Institute and seeing what they recommend if you can afford it. It's also a fun treat!

I used to have terrible skin with some areas dry and others oily, and they really taught me how to take care of my skin and I have never had problems since. The person who did my facial used to work at the Clinique counter, and she said when she worked there they got zero training on the skin itself, just on the products in the Clinique line. She said at the Aveda Institute, though, they got lots of training on the biology of the skin and how to address issues.

If you can afford to splurge on a Clarisonic, DO IT! I bought mine two years ago and it's made a world of difference for my skin. I just use it with regular drugstore cleanser (I like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser) every evening and it's amazing to see how much deeper it cleans than just using my hands or a washcloth, plus it does a fantastic job of exfoliating. My skin has never been so smooth, clear and soft!
