Curvy plus-sized ladies, help!

Hey ladies,

Anyone out there (specifically size 18-24) who had a great (or even good... ;)) experience at a dress shop in Columbus?

Any suggestions? I have an appointment at DB (like everyone else) but I'm hoping to find a few more places to check out.

Thanks!

I am a curvy girl and I got my dress at Davids bridal.  I had a really good experience and found the perfect dress that suits my body type.  Once you find a style of dress that looks good on you, it's really easy to find dresses that make you look and feel great.  Below is the dress I purchased.  The cinching at the was makes me look a lot smaller and the sweetheart neckline actually minimized my chest.  I tried on a dress that was strapless  and cut straight across and it made my girls look way bigger than what they were!

Oh girl, I am a short and wide model. Small bustline, wide hippies, barrel chest. I am not an 18, but I am a 14. I hated that I had to go to DB. But, after searching around, I found that I was pretty limited. I wanted a dress like the one I bought, pictured in my siggy, but didn't have luck finding it elsewhere.
It seemed like the bigger the dress the more unflattering material was added on. BLECK.
I would stick to DB for now, get an idea and then check out other places like Wendy's in CIncy and Trumpington.
I DO NOT LIKE DB. But, its a good start.

Check out Alan Ray. They had some larger samples to try on than some of the other shops in town which was nice. Also, don't think about the size that they tell you to order! I wear a 12 and my gown was a 16 and it was tight so I had to lose about 10lbs to make it perfect. Good luck!

So true! I wear a 10/12 and had to get a size 14 gown! Gosh. I was kind of a shocker. Dresses run on a different scale than everything else. BLECK.

I think a lot of places work with larger brides, just when you call ask because I do not plan on making a trip to davids bridal unless I have to!

I had three weekends worth of appointments scheduled and found my dress on my first day out. I ordered a size 18 (I'm between a 14 and 16 street size). I had no luck at Wendys. Partially because they didn't have a lot of choices for plus size brides, but also because I wanted a lace dress and they had more princess gowns. I did find mine at David's Bridal. I didn't want to go there because of their not-so-renouned customer service but I did find the dress of my dreams there. It was refreshing to have so many styles and prices of dresses for me to try on. I actually had fun there. I went in with the right attitude though knowing I wasn't going to get a bridal treatment with lots of one on one attention. I think that made a big difference.
I've heard great things about Allen Ray so I'd try there too. They were on my list to look but I found mine before I got there.

If you're willing to travel west, you may want to also check out Alfred Angelo just south of Dayton (near the I-675/75 interchange).  That's where I found my dress. They have a great plus-size selection, and they're cut to flatter our figures also.  It's worth the drive.

I don't know about the Columbus DB stores (my BM in Columbus had a good experience there), but the one I went to in Cincy was absolutely awful as far as customer service, and I would've rather walk down the aisle in a black trash bag than spend money with them.

I got mine at david's bridal.  Honestly i thought that was my only option.  And like many other people had heard HORROR stories about the service tehre.  I had bad servie in the beginning but toward the end had great service and LOVED my dress (I did go on a weeknight though).  My bridesmaids also had no issues at Davids.  This is the one on sawmill though (most of hte bad things I have heard have specifically been easton)

I also went to wendy's.  I had a good experience there too but hte selection was not as great.  I did find a dress I love, but it was a littl emore than I wanted to spend.  Good Luck
