Twin Cities Photographers

I'm just starting to look into photographers...what have your experiences been with different photographers in the area? What made you choose your photographer and why and finally, what should I expect to pay for an average package?

thanks so much!!!

I'm using Don Pitlik. I actually went to school with his daughter and he did my senior photos, he's amazing. DCharles is what he goes by on the internet. His packages include a engagement session too!

I was pretty specific on what I wanted in a photographer. 2 photographers, all day access to them, unlimited photos shot, receive ALL of the photos on disks along with a copyright release, artistic and fun... we wanted the photographers to be like our friends on the day and be able to be flexible with us! We also wanted if time permitted a photobooth... That being said we went with DnK Photography.

I don't know what their "normal" pricing was - but we were able to book them for around $2600 (we had negotiated with them... when I thought I wouldn't be able to have them I cried, literally, and then got an email from K telling me they would work within our budget! HOORAY!!! I love them!)

We used Snap.Grin and loved every minute of working with them :)

Ben Berndt Photography!  He's pretty reasonable and is awesome to work with.  Very easy-going, flexible and willing to go above and beyond to get the pictures that you want!  We've had our e-pics with him already and he'll be doing our wedding in May.

got a referral from my friend Ali for Pixelposey photography. We booked at our meeting. His work is levels beyond his rates. He shoots with the a 2nd photographer and gives you all the rights. I'm now referring this guy all around town. www.pixelposey.com

We are using Cadence Cornelius for winter engagement pics, boudoir pics, and our September wedding.  Someone recommended her on here when I first started looking, and I fell in love with her blog immediately.  We wanted a photographer with experience, reasonable prices, and a great personality - because really, besides each other, FI and I will be spending the most time with her out of anyone else involved with our wedding. I interviewed several photographers, but totally felt a 'click' with Cadence.  After I met with her only twice, she invited FI and me to her studio opening party which was a blast :)  She might be my favorite vendor so far and she hasn't even taken our pics yet!!  Communication has been great too, which I think is super important - she returns every email very promptly.  www.cadencecornelius.com

I love Imagen by Alex del Toro, they include THREE shoots, two photographers all day (defined by you), and all the rights to your images. And their price was the lowest we found - $1077.

I'll second Ben Berndt and add Dana Schoppe.  They both did wonderful jobs for me (pics and full reviews in bio).  They're around $1500 - $2000.

    benberndtphotography.com and dschoppe.smugmug.com

Callie V Photography and Spencer Combs are also popular on this board.  They're more in the $2000+ range I think.

We are using Gina Kieffer, A Truth Be Shown. I actually found her blog about a year before FI proposed and met with her two days after to book. She is super nice and takes fabulous pictures. However, she can be spendy depending on the packages that you go with. (Our package is about $3600)

We have her for 10 hours as well as full rights to the pictures and a leather bound fancy album that she makes for us from the pics after the wedding. Her assistant is also there all day and is a great photographer as well.

Her website is http://www.atruthbeshown.com. She also has a blog that I'm totally addicted to: http://www.atruthbeshown.com/blog/. (If you would like to look, our engagement pics is the fourth entry down.)

I wish I could give you my reference, but my photog (Sara Montour) is based out of seattle/tacoma (originally from msp)

I also looked at Kate Botwinski, which has beautiful work and I believe her prices are upwards of 3K.

Do you have a price point?

www.leslielarsonphotography.com and she is very reasonably priced.

We were married in August and used The Enchanted Image. They were AWESOME! They are a husband and wife team, who are also recently married. They felt like our friends after meeting with them, and we absolutely loved our photos. They were very reasonably priced, too. We went with their middle package which was 1800, but I think they a lower package and higher one, too. Love the album we got with our package, too.

We got the rights to the photos, too, which was exactly what we were looking for.

Check out their blog if you're interested: http://theenchantedimage.com

We used Paisley Ann Photography for our engagement pictures and will use her for our wedding as well. Kayleigh is young and has amazing new ideas. She is EXTREMELY reasonable and one of the sweetest women I have met. She is based out of the north metro but I know she would travel anywhere. Our engagement shoot with our digital release was only $85!

    Good Luck!
