Professional Makeup or DIY?

I'm trying to figure out if I want to get my makeup done professionally on my wedding day or just do it myself.  I know if I go the pro route I would go w/ S&C, so I have that in mind for the price range.  If I do it myself I'd have to go spend some money to get some higher quality makeup that will last all day.

What are you ladies doing/what did you do, on your wedding day & why?

I am debating this as well. I would like to know what everyone is paying to have make up done, since I may be too lazy to check on that detail myself!!

I would like to hear the answers to your post!

    <p>Ha I love the honesty!  = )

Here's a link for Smart & Chic.  They come to you, they do great work & I know a lot of the brides on this borad have used them or are going to.

My best friend's mom is doing all of our hair (she's like a 2nd mom to me and has been in my life since I was 11!!!!) If she were to charge (keep in mind we're in St. Cloud) she said it would $55 for the bride and then $40 for bridesmaids.

As far as make-up is concerned, I want to have mine done by someone but don't know who would do it in the area - I don't want to have to worry about it the day of and I think that a professional would be more likely to know how to make me look my best for an all day event with cameras everywhere!

I am doing my own. I figure that for $50-100 I can buy a whole lot of really good make-up that I get to keep and use over again vs a one day stint. The various makeup counters will give you free tutorials or samples, so it is easy to find which brands one likes. I have been experimenting with different brands in the mean time when I go to Ulta. There are lots of tutorials online that show proper technique, so I think by my wedding I will have it down. One thing that I really love is make-up setting spray. I have the Urban Decay one. A few sprays and it prevents your face from melting.

Besides all this, I don't have a ton of time on our wedding day, so I figure that I can cut out a stop by just doing it myself.

I haven't reached the stage in planning yet where I need to look for makeup but I am planning on having it professionally done. I don't want to risk making a mistake or having someone without experience making a mistake. I used to be a dancer and am fairly proficient at putting my own makeup on for events but I don't want to take that risk. Plus I am also interested in the Airbrush techniques which i definitely wouldn't know how to do myself! Lol

I will most likely be doing my own. I feel that I know my skin best, and would make myself look the best by doing my own make-up.

I am having my sister do my makeup. She has always been really into makeup and I trust that she will make me look great! If I could afford a pro, I probably would just for the sake of pampering myself, but I think my sis will do a great job and I know she's excited about it. We will probably go shopping for the makeup together at some point, too.

I went with S&C, and for the most part (my BMs and my MIL, who had different stylists) it was great, for me, my mom, and my MOH however, not so much. Once my person left, I ended up having to touch up my makeup so it looked like what I wanted it to, and had to fix my hair. That said, I kinda wish I would have just done it all myself, but I had heard sooo many good things about them that I figured I would have nothing to worry about.

I did my own for my first wedding - and I had been a Mary Kay consultant for 5 years at that point. (I hadn't wised up yet.)  I knew all my products and I knew my face.

However, I thought my makeup looked funny in my pictures - with the lighting and the camera flash and all kinds of things you don't think of when doing it front of the mirror.  So - professional all the way this time.  They do it for a living, and know what looks best in pics.

    Using S&C.

I'm using S&C, and am looking forward to the airbrush application...still trying to decide if I "need" a trial run.

Yup, I did! We discussed all of the things that I thought could be better, and she made note of them, but on the day of it just wasn't up to par, especially the hair.

I'm using Brett Dorrian. So I am going Professional. Although I've done my make up for others wedding and thought the photos look great. (all i use is Clinque) I wanted something a little more for our wedding day. I also wanted to be pampered. It was my splurge (sp?) for my sister and myself. I have pictures of my trial in my BIO if you wanna take a look at the before and after.

I paid.  I figured it's the one day in my life I can justify being pampered and letting someone else do all my work for the 'getting pretty' part.  Plus, professional cameras are NOT forgiving, so why not let someone use professional make up? :)

I loved every minute of it, including my fake eyelashes.

When it was all said and done, I paid Kira from S&C $200 for my hair and make up, which included her tip and parking.... as well as the extra fees for airbrush foundation ($20) and fake eyelashes ($20.)

S&C all the way.  Don't get me wrong I like doing my makeup and thought it looked good in my E-pics but I feel like Steph, it's the one day to pamper yourself.

Paid S&C to do it. Worth every penny. I'm no slouch with makeup, but like Steph mentioned, the pro cameras are unforgiving. I wanted to be SURE that my skin looked good, and it did. Thank you, airbrush makeup! If our budget had been tighter, I might have tried to DIY or have a friend do it, but S&C was the right choice for me.

I did a trial run and was glad I did - my eye makeup was a little less blended than I preferred and my stylist blended to a point where I was comfortable, so I didn't have any worries the day of.

I have a really good friend who is amazing at doing make-up due to her being a dancer.  She will most likely be doing my make-up as long as she can do some trial runs before :) She did my eyes for new years eve and they turned out great for that! So I know I will be able to trust her!
