Cake, cake, CAKE!!

FI and I finally decided on a baker for our cake after visiting 5 places.  We went to Queen of Cakes, Buttercream, Roseville Bakery, Penny Steele, and Dorothy Ann Bakery.  We chose (drum roll please)...
Penny Steele
I realize everyone has different tastes in cake but her cake is hands down the most amazing cake we have EVER tasted!  We couldn't stop talking about it afterwards, seriously.  It will be a bit over our budget but is so worth it!  Penny is also so wonderful.  She spent a full hour with us talking about our design and how she could help to bring the cost down closer to our budget.  HIGHLY recommend her!   Do yourself a favor and at least stop by her bakery for a sample (currently in Medina but she's in the process of moving to Maple Grove where she'll also sell cakes by the slice....yum!).  In April, she has an event where you can go and taste most of her cakes - that will NOT be good for the waistline a month before our wedding but I so can't pass that up :)

    yummmmmm. Wonderful choice.

    What flavors did you choose?

Did you get to try her caramel apple or banana bread cakes??  My mouth is drooling right now just thinking about those.

She was on our list.  Went to our appt. and she had forgotten about it, didn't write it down or something, so no cake to try.  I realize everyone makes mistakes, but to drive all that way for nothing left a bad first impression.

If we'd had a few hundred more in our budget, Penny would've been a contender.  Even without the full mosaic decoration, she quoted us $8/slice.  Her cake, the 2 slices we got to try, were the best of the 5 places we'd sampled.  Too bad her quote was the highest of them all.

Yeah, our cake design is really, super simple so that definitely helped our budget.  Buttercream was even more expensive than Penny Steele, surprisingly, but I think that's due to the fact that Penny is doing faux tiers for us (she assures us the sheet cakes are identical).

Steph - we did not get to taste those flavors but are definitely looking forward to it in April.  Thanks for your initial input about her cakes or we probably never would have gotten out there based on her prices listed on the website. :)
