Opinion Needed

Question Ladies - My FI and I are going for a casual summer wedding (June 9, 2012) and I was thinking of taking our engagement pictures at the State Fair! Just take "candid" pics all around and what not, I think it could be super cute but my FI thinks it will look dumb (he has no imagination) - what do you guys think??

I saw on a blog that someone had there wedding day pics taken there!!! They did some cute things on the big slide!!!  I say def go for it!!! So many ideas!!!

I also forgot to mention that our STD's  (which have not been sent out yet, no worries) are vintage "welcome to minneapolis" post cards (inspired by TK), so having it at the state fair would go with that theme as well. FI hated that idea too until he saw them, lol</div>

LOVE IT! Ask your photog if they can do a slow shutter of people walking by around you and you two in the very center of everyone. This will blur out those walking/moving and leave you two crisp in the center. This could be AWESOME!

I love this idea! A girl who used to be on the WP board a lot did this at her rock the dress shoot in Grand Central Station and it was so freakin cool!

I think it sounds awesome

MY DH was the same way about E Pics...  I really wanted to take them outside of Target Field being the huge Twins fans that we are but he thought it was lame .  I think a good photog will make any location look cool!!

Good luck in convincing FI I think State Fair pics would be really cool!

<div>That was my friend's wedding!! They got married last August and her family is State Fair fanatics!! They had to go really early to get those shots and work all the logistics with transportation, etc., but they had a blast doing it!</div>

Ummm, I'm super jealous of you if you get to do this! One of the things I miss most about MN is the State Fair! No one out here understands what a big deal it is and how awesome it is! Every year around fair time people post the awesome stuff the did and ate at the fair and it always makes me homesick

But I digress - I think it is an AMAZING idea and I can't wait to see your pics if you end up doing it!

We did that and they were super cute:)  A note about it: your photographer will want to get there really early in the morning for the good light or just before dusk.

So, choose based on whether you wants crowds or whether you want the place to yourself (ie. 6:30am.).  We chose "place to ourself" and have great pics in front of the concession stands with no one around, went down the giant slide with no one else in the shot, walking through the midway with no problems, had no problem finding fun benches we wanted to sit on, etc.  It made for an easier shoot for the photographer since the fair is SO crowded.

But, there are some downsides to the "no crowds" as well--that early, the regular midway games and rides are not open, you don't get "crowd shots" (ie. you guys stand still and everyone else is blurred around you).

Also, something to think about: we love those pics, but for our save the dates, thank yous, and larger pics we have framed in the house...we ended up choosing our more formal shots (we did pics downtown at 6am before heading to the state fair)...so, these are fun and colorful, but remember if you want a more posed headshot for anything to look for those opportunitities in the midst of the craziness of the fair as well.

There was a "trash the dress" session covered in a summer issue of The Knot or maybe MN Bride at the State Fair (except they didn't trash the dress). There were photos of the couple eating fair food, going down the big slide, on the ferris wheel, etc. Super cute!
