    1) How did you and FI meet:
A mutual friend brought him to a party at my house
    2) What was your best date before the proposal:
Last year we went on a camping trip all weekend with his cousin and cousins girlfriend.  It was fantastic.
    3) How did FI propose:
Full story in bio, using a treasure hunt I found an empty ring box at the Renaissance Festival.  When I looked up confused because it was empty, he was down on his knee in front of me.
    4) Do you and FI already live together:
Yep, we have lived together since 6 months after we met - his brother kicked him out.  Now we've been living together for nearly three years.
    5) Wedding
    date:
    June 20, 2010 - It's a Sunday, and Father's Day, and my mom's birthday is the 19th!
    6) Wedding colors:
Red and Blue!  We are having a Rock Chalk wedding!  The colors are meaningful because our birthstones are ruby and blue topaz, and for KU!
    7) Ceremony venue:
We are getting married at the South Park Gazebo in Lawrence, KS.
    8) Reception venue:
Our reception is at the Knights of Columbus hall in Lawrence, KS.
    9) What are you doing that's traditional:
My dad is walking me down the aisle, using Pachelbel Canon in D, using my aunts veil, not seeing each other the day of the wedding until the ceremony
    10) What are you doing that's non-traditional:
The MOH and Best Man are in red and the BM's and GM and in blue, using fake flowers, we're having 4 small cakes [6"4"] instead of one large, the engagement ring is a 4 band puzzle ring, the wedding band might have celtic heart knots, possibly doing the wooden wine box instead of unity candle
    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon?
We want to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • edited December 2011

Fun idea!  Thanks for starting this.  Let's see:

    1) How did you and FI meet:
We worked together at a super crappy job in college.  He sat right behind me.
    2) What was your best date before the proposal:
I don't know if it's a date, exactly, but we took a long weekend trip to San Francisco a couple of years ago.  I love that city and he'd never seen it, so it was really cool to get to experience that with him.
    3) How did FI propose:
We were on vacation in Breckenridge last fall, and I was standing out on the condo's balcony taking pics of the sun rising over the mountains.  When I turned around to go back inside, he was down on one knee with the ring out.
    4) Do you and FI already live together:
Nope, not yet.  He's in Lee's Summit and I'm in Overland Park for now.
    5) Wedding date:
    August 14, 2010
    6) Wedding colors:
We're doing different shades of blue, with green accents.  Blue's my favorite color and green's his.
    7) Ceremony venue:
The Silent Unity Chapel at Unity Village
    8) Reception venue:
    The Villa
    9) What are you doing that's traditional:
Dad walking me down the aisle; first dance/father-daughter dance/mother-son dance; cake cutting; not seeing each other before ceremony on the day of
    10) What are you doing that's non-traditional:
No flower girl or ringbearer; no bouquet or garter tosses
    10) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon:
We're going to Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica for 8 days.  Can't wait (especially since the weather here in KC's been so lousy lately)!

    Awesome! Thanks for posting this:

    1) How did you and FI meet:
My sister had been trying to set us up for about 9 months. She - quite literally - forced us onto our first date but we haven't been apart since!
    2) What was your best date before the proposal:
We went out to dinner, went to Yummy's (a build your own ice cream place) and went for a walk around a local park/gazebo - that's where he asked me to make us "official" (Jess, this is where you're getting married!! :-) )
    3) How did FI propose:
I went over to his place after class one night and found a hommade dinner, candles and wine. He sprung it on me while we were talking about our future!
    4) Do you and FI already live together:
No. We're renting an apartment together after this month but I'll be moving into my parent's place until we're married.
    5) Wedding date:
    9-18-10
    6) Wedding colors:
    Wine, teal & chocolate brown
    7) Ceremony venue:
    Lenexa Baptist Church
    8) Reception venue:
    Camelot Ballroom
    9) What are you doing that's traditional:
Hmm... I think just about all of it! I'm a pretty traditional gal... ;-P
    10) What are you doing that's non-traditional:
We're having 2 flower girls walking w/ 2 honorary BMs and we're having a ring girl instead of a ring bearer.
    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon:
We're going to Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica - can't wait!!!
    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married?
We will be just shy our of 2 year anniversay. We dated for 4 months and will have been engaged for 19 when we finally tie the knot!
    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far?
Our "ring bowl" instead of the ring pillow
    14) When did you know FI was "the one"?
When he told me I was "worth it" - sounds cheesy, but all the other men I had walked away from because they had told me, in one way or another, that I wasn't worth it; FI passed the mustard! hehe
    15)  How long do you plan to wait to have kids?
"right now" (I've heard it changes once you're married), we're wanting to wait at least 2. After 2 years, I figure we'll stop preventing and if nothing happens by year 3, we'll start "trying"

    New question:

    16) If you could change anyting about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad)
    I definitely would've planned a shorter engagement!! lol :-)

    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married:
    About 3 years, 4 months

    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far?

"Our "ring bowl" instead of the ring pillow"
    We have that too!  http://www.eastwindsonline.com/products.php?pid=34
My favorite detail is definitely that we are walking down Mass. St. to the park for the ceremony!  The boys are going to start on the North end of Mass. St. and walk to the park - one photographer with them.  Then the ladies will start walking about 10-15 minutes after them.  After the reception we are then going bar hopping on Mass. St. in our formalwear!

    14) When did you know FI was "the one"?
Extremely cheesy, but I want to say the first time I spent the night at his apartment... I'd had too much to drink and fell asleep on his couch - he carried me to his bed and took off my shoes [NOTHING ELSE! ;)] and then slept on the floor next to me.  I woke up disoriented, but when I realized that he had taken such good care of me - and saw the glass of water and tylenol at the ready, I knew I had a keeper.
    15)  How long do you plan to wait to have kids?
1-2 years.  We want to get started pretty soon, but we want some time to settle in financially before having children.
    16) If you could change anyting about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad)
Ahem, he would have let my family in on the secret!  My family is terrible about keeping secrets so I understand where he was coming from, but I would have really loved it if he would have asked my dad for his blessing.

    1) How did you and FI meet: We met at a bar after a Cubs game. I was living in Chicago at the time and went to the game with a law school classmate and her college friends. The fiance was visiting Chicago for the weekend and went to the game with his buddy. The fiance and one of the college friends worked together in New York and met up after the game, dragging us all along (thankfully).
    2) What was your best date before the proposal: Being his date to his friend's wedding in Lubbock, Texas. It was my first chance to meet all of his closest friends and his mother.
    3) How did FI propose: In the living room after we returned from dinner on a Saturday night. Totally casual and just our style.
    4) Do you and FI already live together: Yep, and our puppy Fritz.
    5) Wedding date: August 21, 2010
    6) Wedding colors: Cream, grey and burnt orange
    7) Ceremony venue: Calvary Lutheran Church
    8) Reception venue: Feasts of Fancy
    9) What are you doing that's traditional: The ceremony will be pretty traditional. Most things we are doing/having are traditional or slight tweaks on tradition. The fiance doesn't want to see each other until the ceremony.
    10) What are you doing that's non-traditional: Walking down the aisle alone/no parent dances (my father passed away), not-quite-white or ivory dress, no bouquet or garter toss, no ring bearer or flower girl.
    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon: We are doing a safari in Tanzania (the fiance's dream vacation, and I'm super excited too).
    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married? Right at about three years.
    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far? The inspirations, I suppose. Mango calla lillies and lantern centerpieces. Though I just ordered my jewelry and I'm pretty stoked about that too, at the moment.
    14) When did you know FI was "the one"? We were living in different cities for the first few months after we met, and we talked on the phone a lot. It all came very naturally. Once I moved to New York and we were able to spend real time together and things were just as natural, I knew he was my match.
    15)  How long do you plan to wait to have kids? Probably a couple of years.

    16) If you could change anyting about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad) I would have hired a wedding planner earlier and maybe had them be more involved generally. Planning from this far away is hard.
    17) How would you describe the feel of your wedding? I want our wedding to be casual but elegant and a little hip. With some vintage elements thrown in. Now that I write that, it all seems like a big contradiction, so we'll see how it turns out!
  • edited December 2011
    17) How would you describe the feel of your wedding?
It's a pretty relaxed, very family oriented wedding.  It is pretty formal, but a fun [not snobby] kind of formal.

    4) Do you and FI already live together: Yep
    5) Wedding date: 8-28-10
    6) Wedding colors: Pool blue, Honeydew green, and yellow accents

    8) Reception venue: St. Andrews Golf Club
    9) What are you doing that's traditional: Almost everything! I'm a pretty traditional person.

    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon: So excited about this! A couple of days in Rome, followed by a 10 day Med. cruise, and then 3 days in Munich for our second trip to Oktoberfest!
    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married? About 5 and half years
    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far? The cakes! Groom's cake will incorporate his love of snowboarding, big cake will be pretty with daisies and touches of K-State pride and both filled with amazing flavors!
    14) When did you know FI was "the one"? When I realized that I had moved away from my super close-knit family and my excitement at being with him after so much distance out weighed my homesickness.
    15)  How long do you plan to wait to have kids? Not long at all! In fact, FI wants to start trying on the honeymoon!

    16) If you could change anyting about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad) I don't like having regrets, but I wish our engagement weekend had gone over a little better with his parents.
    17) How would you describe the feel of your wedding? Traditional with a couple touches of uniqueness. Very summery and light!

    18) What is your first dance song? I'm asking because we haven't been able to pick one yet and that's been consuming me lately!

    9) What are you doing that's traditional: Father-daughter dance, church ceremony, matching bridesmaids' dresses

    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon: We don't really know yet! Maybe somewhere in the Carribean, or Costa Rica. We need to work on that this month.
    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married? 4.5 years
    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far? My dress, my blue shoes, my hair flower from Etsy, and our menu is pretty fun.

About a year after the wedding.
    16) If you could change anyting about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad) I live in Lincoln, NE, and I might change the wedding to here. Planning a wedding from out-of-town is harder than I thought.
    17) How would you describe the feel of your wedding? Fun, sort of casual but still elegant, springy/summery
    18) What is your first dance song? "And Forever" by Robbie Danza and
Naoki Takao. It's from an anime, which fits us because we both watch anime and are on staff for a local anime convention. It's in English, though.
    19) What was one thing you were over budget on? under budget? We're over budget on the photographer. I think it's worth it, though. We're under budget on  flowers.

    1) How did you and FI meet:
    Through friends!
    2) What was your best date before the proposal:
Funniest story ever. We went to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner. The people next to us were getting engaged…but they brought us the plate with the “will you marry me?” and ring on it by accident. I started crying thinking it was for me, my then boyfriend (now fiancé J) didn’t know what to say/do and basically it was one big mess. It was definitely the funniest thing that’s ever happened to us. J

     3) How did FI propose:

On the front porch on the house he lived at in Lawrence, KS. He decorated it with thousands of pink rose petals, candles and everything. He had dinner for 2 from our favorite restaurant in Lawrence ready on the porch. And we had tons of friends come join us for a night of celebrating on the porch together.  It was perfect and totally worth the 6 year wait J
    4) Do you and FI already live together:

Yes! And I wouldn’t want it any other way! We have lived in our apartment for 2 years and actually just bought a house that we will move in to later this month!
    5) Wedding date:

    May 14 2011 (we got engaged May 14 2009)
    6) Wedding colors:

    Pink, orange and lime green
    7) Ceremony venue:

We are thinking Jacob’s Well but not quite sure yet
    8) Reception venue:

Californio’s in Westport is our favorite so far, but we’re still trying to decide J
    9) What are you doing that's traditional:

Not seeing each other before, my dad is walking me down the aisle…that’s all I can think of right now.
    10) What are you doing that's non-traditional:

Our ceremony isn’t going to be from the bible, just about the love we have for each other and celebrating. It’s going to be a lot more “non traditional” than “traditional” but we haven’t planned everything yet.
    11) Where are you/do you want to honeymoon: We don't really know yet! Some where warm, that’s all we know right now.
    12) How long will you and FI have been together when you get married? 8 years
    13) What is your favorite wedding detail so far? All the little details. Most that people won’t even remember but I will.
    14) When did you know FI was "the one"? I don’t really know “when” but I just always knew he was different than any other guy I had dated.
    15)  How long do you plan to wait to have kids? No matter what my parents say/want J it’ll be awhile! J
    16) If you could change anything about your engagement/wedding, what would you change? (good or bad) Have enough money to do anything/everything we want.
    17) How would you describe the feel of your wedding? Fun! Romantic!
