Hotels for Guests/ and wedding night

Was wondering if there were suggestions for hotels in the down town KC area. We are getting married at Club 1000 on 10th and Broadway, and wanted to have a hotel set for any out of town guest or any guest who may not want to go home that night.
Also a special room for my FI and I on the wedding night.
Wanted something nice, but also affordable for guests.
thanks!

Re: Hotels for Guests/ and wedding night

  • We are using the Crown Plaza on 13th and Wyandotte.  But there's also the Marriott, Hotel Phillips and Holiday Inn Aladdin that's even closer to Club 1000.  A little further away are the Sheraton, formerly the Hyatt and the Westin Crown Center, which is a little more on the higher end.  They're all nice and well kept.  We choose the Crown Plaza because of its ammenities.
  • We chose the Hampton Inn and Suites on the Plaza. We are having our reception at the Uptown Theatre. We chose them because of the price and because the price included parking and breakfast. All of the other hotels downtown charge for parking and do not include breakfast. I called around for quite awhile before I chose the Hampton. They also do not make you book a certain amount of rooms and if the block doesn't get all booked they do not charge you. Hope this helps. They have really nice rooms as well.
  • We used the Sheraton Suites on the Plaza and like the other Knottie, they let us block rooms and 30 days out, if we didn't fill all of them, they just removed them from our block and there was no liability to us.  They gave us have three price options to choose for our guests: just the room, room and breakfast, or room, breakfast and valet parking at the hotel.  It was kinda cool to have those options and if I remember, we ended up around $110/night.  Also, the hotel provided us with a customized website that we linked to our wedding website.  So many guests were able to reserve a room online.  Overall, the hotel was nice and affordable but was a little old, it could be updated.  However, with the Plaza literally within a footstep, no one stayed in the hotel for very long.  Also, the entire hotel is suites so the room for the bride/groom is not necessarily bigger than others.  My whole bridal party got ready in my room (only 4 of us total with hairstylist and make up artists) and it got crowded and messy pretty fast.  However, they put you on a top floor with a great view and give you access to the Club Lounge for drinks/snacks.

We checked the Westin Crown Center which would've been lovely, especially since it was connected to shopping/restaurants that our guests would've loved.  However, they did have a policy that you had to fill 80% or something of the rooms you block.  If your guests don't fill that %, then you had to pay for the difference.  Yuck.  I also remember that the bridal suite was about $100 more than the guests where at the Sheraton, we were given the same rate as everyone else.

Basically, call every hotel and ask how they handle their rooms.  Another question to ask is if they will let you give welcome bags to your guests and if they charge you for this.  Some do, some don't.

Wedding bliss since January 14, 2012!
  • I forgot...I travel a lot for work so I pay attention to points.  You might ask the hotels you contact if you/groom can earn points from the guests staying at the hotel.  We got a huge boost in points from using the Sheraton Suites for our wedding weekend.  Now we have points for free stays at any Sheraton hotel!

  • We and most of our guests stayed at the Marriott Country Club Plaza.  H and I got a junior suite, so there was a lot of room for me to get ready that day.  All my guests had great service.  Some of my family stayed across the street at the Holiday Inn and were a little less impressed.  We also looked at the Embassy Suites, they were very nice, but we wanted several options close together to offer guests at different price points.
  • Thank you very much for the feedback! helps a lot! I will start making calls!

</div><div>I'm looking for downtown hotels also...We called the Hilton President and they have this "we must fill 85% of the rooms blocked" or we have to pay the difference, did the Crowne Plaza have a rule like this ?

</div><div>We are also getting married at Club 1000. I recently emailed all of the nearby hotels and found that the Holiday Inn Aladdin offered us the best deal, by far. They will run a dedicated, continuous shuttle for your guests only, from Club 1000 to the hotel for around $150. They will comp the bride/groom suite. They also offered the best rates by about $20/room. Mark & Brandi have been SO helpful! We are meeting with them soon to go over final plans, but I wouldn't hesitate to contact them!</div><div>
</div><div>In regards to the room block, they will "release" unbooked rooms 1 month prior to your wedding. However, if rooms are still available, they'll honor your wedding block rate for guests that book after the 1-month mark! No other hotel offered this!</div><div>
