Day of Wedding Coordinator??

My Fiance and I are doing a lot of DIY for our wedding, including SOME of the food. Has anyone else done this? And if they did how did they make sure that everything ran smoothly? Did you ask family? Did you get a day of wedding coordinator? It freaks me out a little bit to get a stranger involved, but we are having such a small wedding that I would not want to have a member of the family miss anything because they are helping with wedding stuff... any suggestions?

I'm in the exact same boat and I think my FI and I are going to look into volunteers or groups that would do it for a donation.

My mom mentioned a group of ladies she hangs out with (they are a city wide group that does a lot of volunteer work for various charities) that might be interested in setting up, filling chaffing dishes, washing dishes, etc for a donation to a charity or organization in their name.

You could get kids in a youth group to help for a donation to their group.  I don't know if I would trust them with my centerpieces but I am sure they could handle setting up tables and chairs and things.

I would love to have a DOC but refuse to pay upwards of $1000 for someone's services for a day. Especially with I am working with a $10,000 budget.

Try getting some college students to do it- they'll work for cheap.  Or craigslist if you want to hire someone else.  It's not a huge deal to have a stranger involved in it, as long as you meet with them/talk with them/make sure they're not crazy or stupid before the wedding.  I think having a family member do it would make them miss out on a lot.

If you do get a friend to do it, make sure you thank them appropriately (ie gift card or something)
