April 2013 Weddings

Think we can pull it off?

Our original date was July 7, but due to recently finding out that we're expecting we are thinking about moving the date to April 14. Mainly so that I can fit in my dress and not be so uncomfortable it's my first so I don't know what to expect. Here is what we have done so far:

Venue, caterer, photographer, videographer, florist and officiant booked
Dress bought at 4 months preggo I'm hoping I will still fit
Rings bought

But we still need to:

Get cake
Book DJ know him personally just need to meet with and book
Get wedding party attire BMs, GMs FG
Make my DIY candle luminaries and candy buffet
Order and send invites

Just wondering how far you ladies are in the planning process so that I can decide of we can do it!

Re: Think we can pull it off?

  • I totally think you can pull it off. I am getting married on April 13th, and have just about as much done as you do. Just need to step it up a notch and it will work out! As for BM attire, I would do that ASAP. You might have to just pick a color and have everyone get a dress if it comes down to timing.

Congratulations on the pregnancy, that is so exciting!

  • I think it's doable. I'd say you really need to get on the invites and the BM attire ASAP though. I know even David's dresses can take up to 2 months if you're getting a special color so you need to get that going soon. And the invites should go out about 2 months before the event, so you'll want to get them ready ASAP as well. The rest, you have 3 months for which I think is plenty of time!

Congratulations on both the wedding and the pregnancy! Exciting times for you!
  • I think you can do it! Congrats!

  • Yep,  BM dresses and invites, ASAP!  The rest of the stuff can fall into place quickly but give yourself time to rest.  One of my best friends got her mom to help her plan her wedding during her first trimester and she was super tired most of the time, so it was good that she had that help.  You may be able to find a BM dress though Macy's, Dillard's, etc.  It would be much quicker to get your girls to get dresses off the rack or order them online, using the sizing guides.  When in doubt, err on a size larger if you're ordering a dress online.  It can easily be taken in but not easily let out.  How many girls do you have?  The GM tuxes/suits can be ordered later, so that's not such a big deal as the invites and BM dresses.

Make sure you can recruit family and friends to help you pull this off :-)  You got this!
  • Thanks for the support ladies!!

  • Totally doable!  With prom coming up, you might even be able to get dresses for the BM's off the rack and order whatever sizes aren't in the store.  We only have 1 BM, but that's what we're doing.  Same with the flower girls - Easter is coming and those dresses would be fine for a flower girl.

Put a rush on those invites, though.  That would be the first thing I would do.  Also, if you haven't already let your guests know, I would send an email out about the date change - especially to those who have to travel or who might need to get a sitter or something.

Congrats on the new bundle of joy!  I never wanted kids, but I have to say that our "oops" has been the greatest thing that has ever happened to us!

  • Ooh another thought for BM outfits. If you're not too picky, just pick a color (not like a specific designer but navy blue, eggplant, etc) and have them all buy cute dresses of a similar length in that color. I've seen it done before and it's super cute. Plus, it makes the dress deadline a LOT longer as they can pretty much just find a dress in any store they want.
  • I think you can definitely do it!
When you say that you have booked the venue, photographer, etc. do you mean that you have booked them for April or July, for your original date? As long as they are all available for your new date you are in good shape!

  • All of our vendors have confirmed that they are available on April 14th so I'm thinking that it must be a sign!! When are you all sending out your invites? I'm ordering online so it shouldn't take longer than a week to get them.

  • Try to have your invites no later than Feb 14th.  If you have people traveling in from out of town, try to get the invites out as soon as you get them in case people have to change plane tickets/hotel reservations/previous plans, etc.  If most of your people are local then hopefully you're in good shape :-)
  • I would also try and spread the word of the wedding date change to give people a heads up. I know for me personally, if I know a wedding is X date, I rarely pay that close attention the the invitiaton besides times and location if anything.

  • I just had to replan my wedding due to some family drama causing me to cancel the first one.

We are getting married April 6th and have had no problem getting everything done.
