April 2013 Weddings

Procrastination

Hello Ladies,
I am getting married on April 28, which means I have about ten months to plan since I am a DIY bride. I have a venue which provided a good package. However, I still have so much to do but I have not really done anything yet.  The list on the knot.com is overwhelming. Everyone seems to be too busy to help.  I need a realistic idea of what are the things I should have accomplished by August. What have you ladies accomplished so far? What will you accomplish in the next few months? Please any suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Procrastination

  • First, take a deep breathe and relax. You have to decide what means the most to you if its the DJ then find that first.  If its the photographry then do that first.  You have a venue so that is great!  You need to make a list of the things that are most important to you and your fiance and then check them off as you get them done.  I have assigned myself a task every 2 weeks and a DIY project every 2 weeks as well.

  • Congrats and Welcome.
The most important thing for you is your venue so thats a good start.
I also agree with Luckystart with what's important to you.
However photography/videography,DJ,decorations are always a good place to start! (ha So far I have these checked off my list)
Dress shopping is also very important.
So take a deep breath and just start where u feel most comfortable!
Hoping that it will all comes together.
    Congrats again and happy planning!

I would knock out all of the bigger vendors first. Since you have your venue that is a great start because the date is official. If you aren't having your ceremony at the same location I would book that ASAP. Then DJ, photog, florist etc. Try and come up with a main idea that you want (colors/theme) and go from there. Good luck and don't worry!

  • I agree wiht PP, knock out the bigger items first. Def. work on getting all of your vendors booked. Majority of them are now booking for 2013, and make lists! I am list person so this has worked really well for me. I am also a DIY bride, but have been procrastinating as well. I keep telling myself that we have so much time!

  • Thank you so much ladies.  This makes me feel better. I actually planned to go dress shopping today with a two girlfriends and one canceled at the last minute and my maid of honor came after I had tried on all my dresses.  Suprisingly, it did not make me mad. Just made me realize I dont really need anyone to help me make my decisions. So I am feeling pretty good.  Thaks again ladies.

  • You've got about as much done as I do. I know I'm a little behind where I would like to be, but I don't feel like I'm actually behind yet. I hope to have deposits down for all my major vendors down by August, and dress shopping done next month. I just want to have little things and details left by November. And it is important to realize that the most important people in decission making are you, your fi, and anyone paying the bills. Bridesmaids and friends are fun to share with, but in the end, it's YOUR wedding, not their's, so great if they're there, fine if they're not. Plenty of time still...relax.

  • When my wedding was this past May  I actually didnt start until Jan & I was almost done by April. Unfortunatly my wedding was cancelled but because everything was almost done I dont have to do anything until Feb-March.
I did all my DIY so I am sure you can do it in ten months. Like others said The vendors & the hall 1st then everything else falls in place. Just dont stress out, take a deep breath & do you!!!   Good luck.
