Burlap

So, most people associate burlap with real authentic "country rustic" weddings, right?

I'm in a pickle. I LOVE the look of burlap. Totally dig the vibe it gives.
But -- we're not planning a barn wedding. I do have horses, he does live in the middle of nowhere in a small town, etc -- but we're having our wedding in the suburbs.
Can I still get away with using burlap here and there? Even if we're not (and our wedding isn't) all country-glam?

Re: Burlap

  • If your wedding isn't super formal I think you could as long as you treat it as you would treat any other light brown fabric. Don't pair it with checked gingham and don't leave frayed edges. Pinterest has a board for everything:  http://pinterest.com/cjespo/dressed-up-burlap/  I like the burlap and lace.

  • I agree with pp, as long as your wedding isn't too formal burlap should be just fine. I don't think location completely defines what decor can be used.

  • We are having a rustic-chic themed wedding and I am using burlap as my table runners, on my cocktail tables, candy buffet, and guest book/escort card  table. I think its all about how you use it. We are getting married in a beautiful barn so thats why I wanted to do table runners. I have seen burlap chair sashes which look soooo awesome and formal. Since we are ultilizing the runners it kinda limits what kind of table cloths we can use because our venue does not have my main color which is charcoal grey and I do not want to have pink table cloths  (pink is my accent color)
here are some inpirations pictures that I found helpful in deciding to go with burlap

  • Please just make sure that if you're using burlap for sashes and table runners that you get the really soft stuff, like it looks like in the pictures. I know the look of burlap can be really cool, but for people with sensitive skin, like me, it can be really itchy.

  • I ditto that ships -- it's VERY itchy. I'd maybe just use it to jazz up centerpieces, or incorporate it into the bouquets.. or some other "small" part of decorating. Definitely not as a table runners or sashes.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm looking forward to being able to include it!

  • @Christine9866 - Burlap & lace!  I have been pinning these exact same photos.  I'm in LOVE with the concept!
