Anyone doing mailed wedding announcements?

Since our destination wedding is only immediate family and a few close friends, I thought I'd get some announcements printed up to mail to those who aren't invited - just to give them a heads up that we FINALLY made that trip down the aisle after a 4.5 year engagement!

The problem is, I can't seem to find wording that doesn't make me look like I'm fishing for gifts.  Do I really need to put our address on there?  It will be on the outer envelope, and I feel like if I put it on the announcement, it will look like I'm expecting them to send me something.  Also, what would you do for wording besides (Bride) and (Groom) were married on (date) in (location.)?  That doesn't take up much space at all and it looks kind of plain and boring.

If you are sending a wedding announcement I would do it after the wedding.  Also, don't put your address.  You are right, it does look gift grabby.

Why don't you make it a photo card or something. That way you don't have to worry about a cute poem.

The photo card idea is good! Plus, everyone just loves those. They are adorable.

Oh, I know they don't go out until after the wedding.  I was actually hoping to mail them from Savannah so they'd have a postmark from our destination.  I will look around for some cute photo cards though, too.

Since the point of the announcement is simply to announce when and where you were married, I don't think there needs to be anything else on it, in terms of fun wording. Having it be a photo, though, with the simple announcement text, is a great idea, as it won't be a "plain and boring" card, but still simple enough not to look gift grabby (I agree, there's no reason to put your address on there especially when it will be on the envelope).

You can make a postcard-like photo and send it after the fact.  Like a photo of you two, with that old-timey city name on the bottom. You could prob make them on zazzle or vp
