Reception card question

Our reception isn't immediately following our ceremony. There will be about a 2 hour gap. I know that is considered bad and what not, but I am Catholic and that is how it has always been done in my family.

My question is what goes on the reception card? Our main invitation is only going to have the ceremony information on it. I was thinking the reception card would go something like...

Please join us
for dinner and dancing

Half after 5 o'clock
Location
address

Does that sound alright? Thanks!

  • We also are having a break after our Catholic ceremony.  It is VERY common up here.  We put:

The pleasure of your company is requested at the Reception to Follow
    Name and Address of Venue
cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 with dinner following at 7:30.

  • We just went with "Reception from 6-11" and then the address. It just seemed like simple was the way to go.

Is there any way you can kind of host the guests for the gap? My parents are getting a suite in our hotel where they will have just some sodas, juices, water and some chips/dip/snacks set up for people to mingle and then catch a ride on the shuttle to the reception. No official invite, but they're going to let people know word of mouth after the ceremony.
  • Thanks ladies, you guys have great ideas!

von- we are still in the process of seeing if the hotel has a room big enough for the guests for the gap. Both sets of parents already know they will be hosting something, but we are still trying to find a place to keep everyone together. I was going to get my hall for an extra hour, but with tax and everything it figures out to $1000 per every half hour so yeah that is out lol.

Gotcha. Does your hotel have a bar? You can also just let people know if that'll be open before the reception. I figure that's what most of our friends will do and that the family will be the ones heading up to the parents room.

Renting it for an extra hour would DEFINITELY be a lot. I think hosting something small is fine.

Yeah, I have been trying to get a hold of the sales coordinator at the hotel, but she has been off for the holidays, and is only there during the week. So I have to find a day I can go after work to see if I can work something out. I am hoping they have a lounge area or something that we could use.
