RSVPs waste money!

Am I the only one finding out that RSVP cards are a total waste of money? Between the cards and the stamps we spent almost 100 on them. Out of 65 sent, we only got 15 back. Are people just ignorant about them or are they lazy? Ugh I don't get it! The deadline is Wednesday and we have to have our count in by Friday so I will have to reach out on Thursday. Anyone know the best way to word the message?

Re: RSVPs waste money!

  • We did an online RSVP.  We are still missing 61 people and yesterday was our RSVP date!  I'm glad we didn't spend the money on stamps and RSVP cards, because we are just going to start calling around.  Frustrating!

  • Huge waste! We got most of them back, but a lot either never responded at all or just called/emailed. They had stamps on them, it was free to send it back! I don't get it at all. I wanted them all back for a memory box, but too many people never even returned them.

  • Thats exactly why i didnt put stamps on mine. i think we got maybe 15 back. Had to call FI family, and have to call about 20 on my side. I even included my phone number and email so they could rsvp that way....but no one did! ugh!!
  • The first week or two I got a ton back...now I am not getting any. There are a lot of VIPs I am still waiting for. They have until the end of March so I am not super worried at this point. I just hope OOT can get on the ball so I can give my FMIL the list for the rehearsal dinner.

  • I actually got most of mine back (and a lot of really cute messages written at the bottom that I'm actually considering scrapbooking). We did cheap ones, but I'm glad we did them all the same. It was fun coming home every day and looking for more RSVPs (need a couple more, but probably are just having to call those people... sigh)

  • I've gotten a little over half back.  We've had a bunch of people tell us verbally that they were coming/not coming and that is the majority of people that we haven't seen RSVPs back from yet. We still have 2 weeks to go - I'm sure I'll have to track some down, but I hope it won't be the 30+ couples we are still waiting to hear from.

  • Totally depends on the crowd. I agree that people are totally non-committal or are just lazy. Ok, maybe some are just super busy...but to be THAT busy that you can't write a number and lick an envelope...that's just unlikely.

So far we're doing decently well. We received 4 in the mail today. We have until next Saturday for the RSVP deadline and then really need the headcount a few days after that for the caterer. I really DON'T want to have to call or Facebook people. I feel like several of them will just ignore my requests. And although I shouldn't stress over it, I always think of (and try to plan for) the worst - that they'll decide last minute to come and I'll freak out! haha They just won't have anywhere to sit and will have to munch on pretzels all night. I doubt that'll happen, just because the people who don't care enough to respond likely won't care enough to drive either...but still. Just freaking out a bit.

  • We are missing quite a few and the deadline was Saturday. So today FI and I went on Facebook and messaged those who haven't RSVP'd yet. So far we've gotten two responses, one yes and one no. We just sent a message on Facebook:

Hey, how are you doing? Did you receive our wedding invitation? The RSVP deadline was Saturday and we have not heard back from you yet. If you could please let me know by this Saturday if you will be able to attend. Thank you very much!

  • We are missing 9 replies still. i plan on contacting people on wednesday our hotel block expires the 19th so on the off chance someones invite didnt arrive i want to give them time. I honestly think people just forget. Others ( Twenty somthing guys) might be clueless. One of FI's friends asked " Am I  suposed to send this thing back to you?".
