April 2013 Weddings

UPS shoud just move in - lots of pics!

Since we have the big things out of the way, I started ordering some of the little things for our wedding.  UPS is here almost every day and I honestly don't know what to do with this stuff because our apartment is barely bigger than a studio.  Ugh!

Since 98% of the guests will be my huge family, and df's family is really only 4 people, I ordered this sign from etsy, but I need to dress it up a bit:

My niece will be carrying this sign down the aisle:

This is part of the gift for my bridesmaid - a pen filled with Swarovski crystals.

Boxes for guests to take leftover cake:

And a gift for my dad - I'm sort of in discussions with this etsy seller because the Father of the Bride was supposed to be centered, and the circle around our date is partially off the key, which was NOT the way it was shown in her listing.  She doesn't seem to want to do anything about it though - anyone have advice?  Am I being too picky?

Oh, and a gift for my aunt, who raised me as a child and is like a second mom to me.  She collects nick-nacks and I thought a figurine of flowers would be a good reminder of our garden wedding and the blue would be an extra reminder because of the whole "something blue" rhyme:

  • Cute!  I was going to make the first sign myself, if I can find a suitable chalkboard!

  • CUUUUTE!!!  I love the "Uncle Eric, here comes your Bride" sign!!
  • Wow I love everything, especially the pen and signs!!

Regarding the etsy seller, was the item fairly expensive?  The off-center and date circle would bug me as well.  If she isn't willing to do anything about let you know you will be leaving a neutral feedback and you can post of picture of your key and why you are leaving the feedback and then maybe order from another seller who sells a similar item... Good luck!
  • That's what gets me - that keychain was like $50.  I would think for that amount, I would have gotten something a bit nicer.  I told her that I would be leaving negative feedback and she said that she would fight me on etsy and get it removed.  I have so much going on in my life right now that I really don't want to deal with another argument, ya know?

Keychains are a thing with my dad and I.  I used to buy him $1 keychains for his birthday and whatnot when I was a kid.  He kept them all.  The very first one, he kept on his keyring until it broke off when I was in college.  So I went out and bought him a new one.  I figured that a keychain to remember my wedding would be a fun thing - especially after I found this one that seemed SO appropriate.

<div>Wow $50.  The seller sounds like a knob most sellers I have encountered on etsy are super accomadating. I would just leave it at this point and avoid the argument and stress!  I feel you have done as much as you can.</div><div>
</div><div>I love the meaning behind the keychain and you know your dad with cherish it   :-)</div>
  • Where did you order the boxes for leftover cake from?

Here's the link for the cake boxes: http://myweddingreceptionideas.com/cake_slice_favor_boxes.asp

You can't tell, but the writing is more like a metallic foil.  When they initially arrived, I was upset because they looked smudged.  But, it turns out, if you wipe across them with a paper towel, the excess will come off and they're perfect!  They don't come with assembly instructions, and I ruined one trying to figure it out, but when I did I felt like a real idiot because they're super simple.  lol

As for the $50 keychain, that was our limit for parent & attendant gifts and since we're doing a destination wedding, I wanted to keep the gifts on the small side so we don't have to pay a fortune to lug everything down there in 10 zillion suitcases.  I thought it was a lot of money for a keychain, but my dad and I have sort of a strained relationship and he has absolutely NO hobbies or interests so I had no idea what to get him.  When I saw that keychain, I was like "BINGO!" I LOVE etsy, and this is the first time I've ever been disappointed.  :-(

As some of you may know, my dad decided to get married 2 weeks after us.  IF my dad goes to the wedding, his fiancee will also go.  Should I get her anything since she'll almost be my stepmother at that point?  I don't know her at all, she has made no effort to get to know me over the past year and a half, and she has caused a lot of drama in our family since she showed up on the scene.  I don't want her there, but I know I can't exclude her.  Does that mean, however, that she should also receive a "parent gift" even though she's not my parent yet, and I will probably never feel like a daughter to her due to her bad attitude?

Regarding your step-mother if you aren't close I don't think a gift would be necessary.

Are you doing gift bags for your DW guests if so maybe throw in a few extra items in there for her... otherwise maybe getting her a corsage to wear the day of the wedding would be a way of including...
  • Thanks for the info!  I really like the cake boxes and you just solved my problem of feeling like I wasn't doing enough in the way of favors!
