April 2013 Weddings

Weekend post!

Hey all!  I can't believe it's Friday already!

After a disastrous weekend last weekend, this weekend looks better.  My family from Texas are leaving on Sunday but today we're going to the History Center, which is one of my favorite Pittsburgh museums (I wanted to get married there, even, until I found out the price!).

Tomorrow we're going to a BBQ at my cousin's house.  There's all kinds of family drama involved and my mom told me I was "wrong" for going because she's convinced my cousins/aunt stabbed her and my dad in the back (long story short: cousin Mike, who is 40+, got married last year.  They weren't invited and neither was I.  Me, not being close to Mike, didn't care.  Mom started a war, though, and now I'm "not allowed to invite trash" to my wedding.  Sigh).  But, I do enjoy my cousins and my aunt so I'm happy to see them.

Sunday will be work on the house day!  We figured out we have hardwood floors under the old carpet so we have that and I've been doing some painting and cleaning.  Now if I can get FI to pick out appliances, I'll be thrilled.

Re: Weekend post!

  • Ah, yes, I love your weekend post, Erbear!  FI has mentioned maybe getting another operational tour for 5 years and staying in Tampa so I've been casually looking at houses online :-)  That's awesome that you have the hardwood floors, I want them everywhere in my house except the bathrooms, haha.

FI finished up his flight mission four days early so he decided a couple of days ago that he'd come visit for the weekend, yay!  He's on his way up now :-D  We are going to meet some friends for dinner followed by a free wine tasting tonight.  Tomorrow we'll do some WR stuff(maybe finally pick out save the dates!?!?) in the morning and then drive out to Destin and hang out with one of our friends from our officer training.  He hasn't seen her in 3 years and I haven't seen her in almost a year and she's finally visiting her family out there.  Sunday will probably be a chill day since he usually leaves around noon to go home.

Yay I get to see my fiance!!!!!!  Sealed
  • ERbear- that is exciting about the hard wood.  It makes me jealous I am in an apt for at least another year.

lch- congrats on seeing your FI.  I know how hard long distance can be.

I am going into the city tomorrow and seeing Bring it On the musical with my little sister before she goes back to college.  Then Sunday we are going down the shore to celebrate our best man's 30th birthday.

  • I hope you had a great time with your Texas family, and hope you have a great time tomorrow at the BBQ!!

I have a sinus infection, and it sucks hard. So I have been feeling pretty blah this week. If I feel better tomorrow, I will be going to the lake to celebrate my cousin's 1st birthday! So I really hope I feel good.

I don't know if anyone remembers my post back in June about the Police job he applied for, things weren't looking good and we were starting to face reality that we most likely were moving out of state. Well, last Friday he calls me - in the middle of a text conversation, so I knew something was up - and he just says "the city called....(long dramatic pause where I am not breathing) They want to hire me". I cried all day long. My body was numb, for the first time since we have been dating we KNOW where we can live, what he will be doing. It is a remarkable feeling.

He said he still had to pass a physical to be able to go through the Police Academy, but he passed that on Monday. He also found out that not only do they pay for him to go through the academy (4 months of basically a full time job) he will be getting a paycheck as normal; and he will be done on December 14th. This is literally best case scenario and I couldn't be more proud of him.

Now it is time for us to house hunt lol! T - minus 8 months! Erbear, any tips for me?

  • Tonight we have a rehearsal dinner for FIs cousins wedding, then tomorrows the wedding. Sunday we have a BBQ for my grandmas birthday. Hopefully there will be a little relaxation time in between.

  • I had kind of a rough week with family relationships, but things are good enough now that we can move along. My weekend is going to be full of work. Management's on their onceperyear "pretend to actually care about the department and manage the employees" stint and the result hasn't been pretty. And it also majorly upended my schedule and instead of working mornings on the weekends I work all day. :/ When not working, I'll be cleaning and making decorations for my friend's bridal shower that I'm hosting later this month.
  • Aww, YAY vk!!  So happy for you guys!  In terms of house hunting, compromise on a list of "must haves" - ours was 3 bedrooms with air conditioning and a yard.  Pretty small must have list because we're both of the theory that everything inside can be changed.  And that's the biggest thing - My house needs some TLC and some refreshing but it's got a great structure to it.  The previous owners never modernized at all (and they bought the house in 2000) and if you watch shows like House Hunters, most people would've probably walked in my house and criticized it to high heavens.  But FI and I saw what we could do to it and I'm happy so far!  Oh, and when you paint with poly, use fans AND buy a respirator face mask.  That stuff is AWFUL.

And also lch, YAY for getting to see your FI! Enjoy!!
