Compromising on bedding?

So to start off, my fiance is almost always cold and I have a tendency to get warm easily.  He likes to sleep with a sheet, blanket, and a thick comforter.  I never slept with a comforter growing up, only a sheet and a blanket and I am very used to that and comfortable that way.

I don't like being too warm and I don't like the way in general most comforters feel because they have a tendency to be too heavy and make me feel like I'm being suffocated (yeah I'm weird).  So I was curious if anyone's aware of any kind of middle ground we could likely meet at with different types of bedding so he could be warm and I could be comfortable since in about 6 months we will be sharing a bed and we're about to register?  Thanks.  Laughing

  • It might be more expensive than any guests want to get themselves, but I know the Sleep Number store sells comforters that you can get one side heavy and the other one light and they zip together or something before you put them in a duvet.  All part of their 'two partners with completely different sleep habits can still share one bed' ideals.  My friend works there and sometimes they have family & friends discounts.  If you PM me your email, I can have her let me know when the next one is.

  • Just use two blankets? FI sleeps warm, I do cold, so he has a light blanket, I have a heavy one and all is well with the world (especially since then we don't have to worry about one of us stealing the blankets in the night. We then have a comforter that's just to cover the two smaller blankets when you make the bed that neither of us use.

  • FI is always hot and is a blanket stealer who then throws the blankets off the bed once he gets warm, so I keep a 2 extra  twin size blankets on my side and started wearing heavier pajamas.

  • I have a really heavy twin size quilt on my side of the bed, and we have our regular bedding for the season.

My preferred temperature is about 85 degrees. John is happy at 65. Just having someone else in the bed helps keep me warm, but I still keep my extra blankets.

We also have/had a heated matress pad and electric blanket in years past. Both need to be replaced this year and I'm not sure which or both we'll be going with.

  • I have an electric blanket that we use, since I'm always freezing and FI is always warm. It has dual controls, so he usually leaves his side off, and I turn my side on to be nice and warm. It wasn't expensive, and I believe we got it at Kohls or possibly even WalMart
