Nails!

Does anyone have any plans or experience with wedding nails?  I'm wondering what color do people get them done and when.  I had planned to get mine done the day of my wedding, but someone told me that maybe it would be better to get them done the day before.

I think if you are getting fakes a day or 2 before would be better than day of because of the glue getting on your fingers and all. But I think if you are just getting polish that it would probably be better to do day of to lessen the chance of a chip or something. I think most classic/traditional brides get the pink and white french manicure look or just a soft pink or even a red, but the more funky brides do all sorts of colors, it really just depends on your personality. I am probably going to do the pink and white acrylics for my wedding.

My natural nails are really nice, so I just got a French manicure and pedicure. I forget the lady's name, but she works for Delores Hair Designers off of Hayden Run Road. Delores herself did my hair for the wedding and she is a friend of my Grandma's.

There is something called the Gel Manicure (my personal favorite). It goes on like polish, but instead of drying by air, your nails get cured in a UV light box between each coat. I love it because I'm a server and really rough on my hands. This mani lasts 2 weeks without chipping or peeling. You just have to call around and see if people have it (most places do, your typical small places, penzones, kenneths etc). It's called Gelish, Shelac, or Axxiom. They have so many colors and you can get it done in a french manicure style, or I would even suggest a pale pink or neutral color. Look around. Try it out. Cheaper than acrylics, more expensive than your basic 15 buck mani, but lasts. Ranges anywhere from 25-50 depending on where you go. The smaller nail places are cheaper, but won't have the vast variety of colors like Penzones would have. Try it out before hand, see if you like it. I swear by it.

Thanks so much for this info!! I have been dying to try the gel mani! Any place in particular you'd recommend going? :)

The cheapest place I found for the gel nails was the Nail Lounge at Polaris.  Its to the left of Rave Movie Theater, right next to Sushi En.  You can look on their website and it gives you the pricing information. http://www.nailloungesalon.com/

I get mine done now at L&T nails in Gahanna (next to Hamilton Pub). It's 30 bucks, 32.00 even with tax.

I used to go to Elli Nail Spa in Downtown Worthington (cute little place!), but after spending 50 bucks a pop, I can't afford to do it anymore there. Seriously, wherever you live, just google nail salons and start calling the places to see if they carry it. Ask how much it is for 1 color and for a french style (normally 5 bucks more for french style). Sometimes they might even cut you a deal on your cost of the mani if you do a mani-pedi combo! I know that I get 5 bucks off my mani if I do a pedi with it.

**Edit: The higher quality salons like Penzones and Elli nail spa cost more because they depend on quality versus quantity. Try going to a cheaper salon when it's their slow time of the day and let them know what you are looking for in quality**

I got the gel polish for my epics and under the dryer they kept bubbling!  They looked so bad that I went back the next day and made them take them off and just give me a clear pink polish.  Also, there weren't that many colors to choose from.  Ever since then, my nails have had a ridge in them too.  This was at a cheap strip mall place though, so maybe that is why!

Another way to try to save money on manis and pedis, pay cash. Some places (not high end places like Penzone), will offer discounts if you pay in cash. Ask, you may be surprised! They are charged a percentage of sales through the credit card machine.

I have nothing to contribute, just that I'm grateful for this post because this came up in a discussion today LOL. I work in a middle school and some of the girls were telling me that I need to start taking care of my nails so that they look better for my wedding....gotta love tween advice! I'm definitely going to look into the gel manicure. :)
