Re: Engagement photo props

  • We didn't, but my friend (who's getting married in July) brought signs that said "Save the Date" and "We're getting married" and things like that to use the pictures for their save the dates as well.

  • We didn't, but we had some of our photos taken at a vineyard and used the wine bottle and glasses etc. :) Congrats on the teaching position!

  • We didn't really. We brought a hydrangea ... poof (I don't know what you'd call a whole big blossom/ball of hydrangeas) because that's our flower, and it's in some of our pictures - but the main focus was just us.
  • We had a plane, luggage, and FI's flight jacket b/c it was a travel/aviation themed shoot :-)
  • We were boring and didn't bring props.

Then again, we had like no time to get ready the day of our pictures. FI had to leave work at 3:00, drive 30 minutes home, get ready and be ready to leave the apartment to get to the studio by 3:40 to get there on time. Hahaha. Needless to say, we were a bit late! Hahaha. But, our pictures still look amazing!

  • We have a little sign saying out date, and that is it. We are taking them at his parents house and they have this huge barn and horse pasture and fields of oak trees and this cute porch, all near these foothills of views of the valley. We kinda lucked out with having just enough of that natural surroundings to be our props!

  • I take engagement photos and some things people have brought to sessions are:
    - jerseys of favorite teams (and football, glove & ball etc)
    - bicycles (one brought a tandam bike which was fun)
    - canoe for lake photos
    - special vehicles - classic cars, vw bus, etc
    - board games the couple played together
    - pumpkins for halloween save the dates
    - save the date signs or banners
    - picture of the actual engagement
    - pets
    - books
    - motorcyles
    - couple's boat
I always encourage people to bring something if it means something to them or represents them as a couple - typically they are hobby things that show case something the couple enjoys.  You don't have to have props, most sessions its just the couple but they can be fun.
