April 2013 Weddings

speech

Do you guys plan on giving a welcome speech at the reception? What do you plan on saying?

Re: speech

  • I told FI he could handle that part ;-)  He's probably just going to get up and thank everyone for coming, etc.  I have never been to a wedding where the bride said anything but I know it's more popular in certain parts of the country.
  • my FI is scared of public speaking... So I will have to lol
  • I don't have a problem with public speaking (I can't in my line of work).  I just figured that for once, someone else could take care of it ;-)
  • Do you normally have the Best man, MOH, give speeches Dad maybe? I'm thinking of letting other closer family members as well give a speech.
  • Our Best Man, MOH, and both dads are going to give toasts.  FI will probably give a toast/speech.  Our Day-of coordinator has a worksheet type of thing that we can work off of to decide who will get up to toast/speak.
  • Thats a good idea to have a planner sheet i'll talk to my coordinator about that! I'm thinking my dad, my FI, MOH, and Best Man......
  • I have never been to a wedding where the bride and groom addressed the crowd so honestly I would think it was weird if a bride and groom did this.  I have seen the bride and groom address the rehearsal dinner guests though.

  • It may also have something to do with who is paying.  Our families are contributing a little here and there but we are actually hosting.  I have seen grooms get up in the past and just welcome the guests and propose a toast to his new bride, etc.  Meh...I say do what you want to do ;-)
  • I agree...do what you want to do....it's your day!!!!!!!!
  • I don't know if FI or I will actually give a toast, but I know that both our MOH and Best Man will welcome everyone and thank them for being there for us during their toasts. During dinner FI and I will be going to each table to thank/speak with everyone individually.

  • MOH and BM are giving toasts but I don't know if anyone's doing a welcoming thing. It's not necessarily done in my area...the host can give a toast/speech but it's really optional. I think probably, we'll just have the DJ sort of welcome everyone when he does introductions and then we'll definitely be going to greet people at their tables.
  • Ohhh I really like the idea of the couple addressing the crowd. I've never been (that I can recall) to a wedding where this happened. I'm going to add it to my list of things to do. I'll let my FI do this one ;)

  • At almost all of the weddings I've been to the couple addresses and crowd and goes around to all of the tables, so we probably will as well. Our wedding will be very small though, so it may only be two big tables.
