Rant

Sorry to be so new here and already having a rant. I know I am just having a bad day.
I am not a kid. This is my second wedding. In fact, I will have my second granddaughter by the time I get married. My family is not paying a penny of this. FI and I are footing the bill even though I just got laid off.
When I decided on a New Orleans destination wedding I asked my mom if she minded me eloping. She said not at all as long as I didn't expect her to set foot in New Orleans every again. I was fine with that!
Now my mom has decided that my wedding will be too cool to pass up and she is coming. Great, added expenses.... Oh, and my step family has a tradition of the mother of the bride dressing to emulate the bride. She got a new ivory dress to wear. I would tell her no but it isn't worth the emotional baggage to deal with it.
Like i said I think I am just having a bad day. Am I being unreasonable? I should be thrilled my mom will overcome her hatred of New Orleans to be at my wedding.

Re: Rant

  • I would chalk it up as a bad day. You will have a better one today!

As for the ivory dress wearer... that is your step mom that wants to wear the dress? I kind of think that is a silly tradition, I have never heard of that before. A grown adult can wear whatever they want but to copy the bride seems rather ridiculous.

Be happy your mom wants to come, you will have a great time together.

  • The dresser of ivory is my mother. She remarried 15 years ago after my dad passed away.

  • Ohhhh, I gotcha. I would just let it slide and try not too worry about it!

  • I would be happy my mom was attending.  It will provide great memories especially if you are both older.

This is my 2nd wedding as well and hoestly, zero is stressing me out this time.  I think age helps.

As far as the ivory, you can do lots with that in New Orleans.  Make it vintage feeling or something.  The pictures can be gorgeous.  Just all in all, don't let small things stress you.  IF the ivory bothers you that much, can you tell her how you feel and ask her if she minds wearing a different color?

I hadn't even thought about if people wore white or ivory.... I don't think it's that significant.

Just enjoy the city and the fact you will have a wonderful wedding!

FYI, we got engaged in New Orleans at Jazz Fest last year.  One of our favorite cities.  A nod to engagement, we are having beignets and chicory coffee late night and we have hidden fluer de lis' in a few spots.  It's a very sentimental spot for us :)

One more thing - there was an AMAZING wedding in New Orleans posted awhile back on Offbeat Bride.  You should check it out. Very Gatsby inspired. I swooned bigtime.
