Depositing checks

We have gotten a few checks from people who cannot make it to the wedding. One is made out to S and V FI's last name (dated 4-13-13). Now I know we cannot cash it now because of the date, and when I spoke with the bank they said that because it says AND neither myself or FI can cash it because technically V fi's last name does not exist yet. She said we can bring in our marriage license after the wedding and all will be well.

Yesterday we received one that said Mr. and Mrs. FI's last name. Because my name isn't listed would FI be able to cash it? I think his mom is on one of his accounts, so if FI can't do you think she could do it?

I don't want to have checks stacking up and would like to get them taken care of as soon as possible. Thanks!

That is a good question and I have no idea how to help you but I'd like to see what others say.  So far all of our were addressed to me, with the exception of one, which was addressed to FI.  Clearly he and this friend do not actually talk very often b/c in the note, his friend sent his regrets and revealed that he is also engaged and addressed the check to FI and sent it to me: FI and I live 6 hrs apart and he's constantly deployed!  I wrote his friend a gushing thank you note and explained that it might be awhile before FI can deposit it since he's flying all over God's creation(didn't exactly phrase it that way). 

I will be sure to send this friend and his fiancée a very nice wedding gift in the event we are invited to their wedding for our oversight in not extending the invitation to his fiancée :-/

I am not sure about cashing, but i do beleive that you can deposit the check with only one signature and write "for deposit only" on the check.  Then you can withdraw the money.  That was the case in 1999 when I worked at Bank of America, but it could have changed by now.
