Babysitter for guests

Hello ladies!

I am considering hiring a babysitter for some of my family coming in from out of town for the night of the event.  The venue I've booked doesn't allow on-site babysitting, so I would need both an off-site location (hopefully sort of near the Franklin Park Conservatory) and babysitter for 6-8 kids aged 1-7.  I don't have any family/friends close with kids, so using a babysitter I already know is not an option.

Have any of you booked/considered a similar arrangement? Could you help me with the options you found, how many sitters were needed and how much they charged?  I have heard that some day care facilities may be able to be rented out for this type of event, does anyone know of any place that would accommodate this? Any details would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Babysitter for guests

  • I interviewed once to be a babysitter during a reception, but they decided just to have the kids there. I currently work in the childcare field and have worked with newborns up to 13 year olds. If there are babies in the kid count I would recommend having two people. How many hours are you looking for someone to watch them? Only thing I cannot help on it a location that would accomodate having someone watch them. Unless you chose to rent a hotel room for the duration of the time.
  • I don't want children to be present at the reception (after dinner) but luckily, the venue we have chosen has a "basement" that has tables and such set up where kids can go downstairs and do crafts/play games or just plain run outside.

I plan on speaking with my son's preschool to see if I can gather a few of the teachers (depending on how many children we have actually attending) to monitor and supervise the "basement" area so that the adults would feel more comfortable allowing their children to go off. My suggestion to you is maybe contact some daycares/pre-schools in your area. Talk to the director of these places, and ask if he/she would allow you to hire X amount of teachers for your event. It's a bonus for the daycare, because it would also get their name out there.

  • A wedding coordinator told us about this service - haven't used them, but it sounds professional

  • Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll have to look into hotels, I think the location is going to be the harder part to find.  Someone told me that daycares may rent out their space after hours as a day care.  I haven't checked into it yet though.
