So disappointed

...but who am I kidding, I should have expected it right?

I bought my dress at David's Bridal and had a wonderful experience. I couldn't believe how many issues others had with it and didn't understand why all the bad reviews. Fast forward to alterations time. I schedule my alterations appointment (take a day off from work), then a week before they told me they double booked and needed to reschedule. Luckily they had an appointment the same day (Feb 19). So I had my fitting and she marked up the hem and bustle etc. We scheduled the "pick-up" for tomorrow (March 22). I get a call today that a couple people have the flu and they have to reschedule. The next available is April 9th!!! My wedding is April 20th. What if I need more alterations??!! Then the lady started telling me that it will definitely be ready by April 9th. Wait a minute, is my dress not ready or are you short staffed? Which is it. She kept flip-flopping back and forth.

I'm so upset and so disappointed. I can't imagine that it's not ready because all they had to do was a hem (I had a short train with no details, just fabric) and a 3 point bustle. It's been a month since my first appointment, there's no way it shouldn't be done. I almost want to call back and demand them to fit me in sooner. I guess I should have prepared myself for this.

Re: So disappointed

  • I would call and demand they fit you in sooner, or find an alterations place nearby that will do it and pick up your dress and take it to them. 10 days seems a little close. I'm picking mine up tomorrow for my April 6 wedding, that is at least 15 days to make sure I'm okay.

I would walk into the store and talk to the manager. Demand to know which it is--is your dress done, or is it not done? I'd make a huge stink about it being done in time for the wedding. This is how companies get sued. If you're not comfortable with the April 9th date, demand something sooner. You're the customer, and the customer is always right.

That's true, go into the store because they will probably work with you better if you are there and could affect any customers buying their dress!

  • I'd go into the store personally also, and figure out exactly what's going on. Good luck!
  • If they tell you it's not ready you could always tell them you want your dress back and that you're going to take it elsewhere.  Have another seamstress lined up just in case and tell them her name, that might get them moving.

  • I would go in the store and demand to try it on, even if it's not 100% ready, you can at least see what there is left to do.

  • Thanks everyone! It takes me about an hour to get there, so I'd hate to drive all the way there and not get anywhere. I know the alterations manager is going to be there at 2pm today so I was thinking of calling back later on.

<div>You'll get somewhere if you're standing there right in front of them! Customers are too easy to ignore and/or talk down on the phone. I would plan to be there at 2:30 when you know the alterations manager will be present.</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: Okay, so this won't work for you today, since it's 2:15... but you get the idea.</div>
  • Oh.... my DB alterations chick just stepped on the back of my dress last night and ripped it.  Then said she didn't.  Then tried to charge me another $120 for the hem which they were supposed to do the first time...

  • Yikes! That's awful. As it's now after 2:30, did you have any luck calling and yelling at the manager? If not, keep calling. I'd definitely be upset about that!

Cryssteen - was your dress badly damaged?? Are they fixing it for no extra cost?
  • Cryssteen that's awful! I hope it was resolved in your favor.

I haven't had a chance to call yet since I'm at work. I've got about another hour and twenty minutes to go, then I'm going to call.

  • Ive had two alterations appointments, im getting married on April 5th and am picking it up on the 2nd. Im not to worried about the date. Just breathe and relax! try not to stress over it, i know its hard to do..

  • Thanks dani. I called last night and spoke with the manager. She said there should be no problem with my dress being ready and I can still plan on coming in tonight for my original appointment. She told me to call before I head in just to make sure. I'm crossing my fingers that one: it's ready, and two: I won't need any further alterations.

  • That's great Jessalyn! Let us know how it goes!
  • Just called. The work is done and it is just waiting to be steamed since they wait until the last minute to steam it. They say if it sits around for 2 days it will get creased again.... so what about the next month that it's going to sit around for??

<div>I think if you're storing it on it's own (and not near other items of clothing), it shouldn't need to be steamed again. You should be fine.</div><div>
</div><div>Good for you for standing up to them, and congrats on getting your dress! I hope it's perfect!</div>
