April 2013 Weddings

Thank you cards

What are most of you getting? I want to get them now, my shower is next weekend.

The ones I am finding are blank inside. Is that the norm? I am expecting about 45-50 people so I'd prefer ones that arent blank but I'm not having much luck finding them.

Thanks!

Most of them ARE blank.  Personally, if people took the time out of their lives to celebrate with you, and probably spent money on a gift, the least you can do is sent a hand-written thank you note.  Do a couple each day and it won't be so bad.

My baby shower probably had 70+ people in attendance and writing all those notes out sucked, but if they cared enough to celebrate with me, then I cared enough to take 2 minutes to hand-write a thank you note.  I'll be doing the same for the wedding.

  • This is true, it's not that I dont care enough. I just have horrible hand writing and I never know what to say in them LOL
  • Most are blank, and you should really at least write 2-3 sentences thanking them about what you got- specifically naming each thing. Doesn't matter if your handwriting sucks, it's more about the effort!

  • I pre ordered mine. Although at first I wanted ones with our wedding picture on it I've decided to use the ones that came with our invites. i'm addressing them before the wedding and bringing them on the honeymoon, they will be a good plane and Chunnel activity. I want to mail them from London and Paris when we are on our honeymoon,,,,, I like getting international mail and I thought it would be a nice touch on our thank yous.

Dear [person who got you gift],

Thank you so much for your thoughful gift (or you can name the gift). I will use it [to do this, to do that, everyday, etc.]. Thank you for coming and spending this special day with me.

    Love, [your name]

The template I have used for every Thank You Card ever written! If it's a close friend or family member I add in something else but this is what I generally say. Hope this helps you. If you have bad handwriting print it out in a nice font on your computer and paste it to the card. I've seen this done numerous times.

For my shower, I bought blank ones at Target that I liked. They were navy with a gold bubble pattern and an aqua circle around a simple "Thank You". I think they were 50 for $9.99

Blank is the norm, because you're supposed to write a personal thank you on the inside. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone gets pre-printed ones with fill in the blanks. My family is super guilty of this... sigh. My writing isn't that great either, but people appreciate a hand-written note these days. You'd be surprised how many people don't send any thank you at all!

For the wedding, I took a picture of my bouquet (it's artificial and I made it) on top of our invitation (with my iPhone, no less), then plopped a scripted "Thank You" in the bottom corner of the image. I had photo cards printed at Walgreens.com for unbelievably cheap. I think they cost me something like $0.67 a piece. It was WAY cheaper than getting custom ones printed, and they are pretty darned custom. They're blank inside too, so same deal.

We got ours from vistaprint - really simple, one color, with our logo on it, and "thank you" at the bottom. Then the inside is blank.

While it can seem daunting to write out a ton by hand, it really isn't that bad when you get down to it. As others said, just do a couple a night :) And, FI and I are splitting them up. We'll both be signing them all but I'm writing the ones for my side and he's writing the ones for his. It's going to make it so neither of us get slammed with work and I'm sure his buddies from college would rather have his personal touch than mine.
  • I just bought pink and grey ones from target that say thank you on the outside and are blank on the inside. For the wedding we will probably have blank on the inside and pictures of us from that day on the outside.

Perfect!! ahh thank you so much :) I think I am just stressing over all the things still left to do and it being crunch time.
  • Also- dollar store has a lot. They have a few varities, with 8-10 each in there... super worth it!

  • I bought totally blank one's from Joann's on clearance. FI had designed our invitations, so he designed the thank you card's too. Printed them off and for 100 it cost me about $8 total? Writing them out is hard on my hands since I'm so used to typing everything now, but ... I like the personal touch too.

Thanks :) I just want to get them done ASAP.
  • I got my shower ones from Hallmark and my wedding ones from VP - they match our invitations.

My mom is super anal about TY cards and embedded in me that you should never write a generic one if you can help it. I had to write about 80 for my shower and boy that was tough. For some I had to type it out on the computer until I got it just right.
