Wedding Insurance?

Is anyone getting wedding insurance?

I think the only thing I'm really worried about is people drinking and driving.  We're serving beer and wine only from 4:30-10pm with plenty of food.  I am also going to put up a framed sign with cab numbers but we're going to be about a 40 min drive from any taxi services.  I looked into a bus rental but it's $775, which we aren't budgeted for so that's not happening.

Our Day-of wedding planner has agreed to help us by cutting people off if need be but would we be responsible for someone getting a DUI since we provided the alcohol?  I really don't think this will be a problem but you really never know...

Re: Wedding Insurance?

  • I agree with Von. You are not responsible.

But as for the insurance, my FI and I considered it. At the begining of planning we weren't sure what state we would be living in and where we would be at with his job. It ended up working out so we never had to purchase it.

  • We have wedding insurance.  We didn't get it for people drinking though.  Our reasoning was if a vendor pulled out last minute or something we would then have money through the insurance to replace them.  FI is in insurance industry so really it wasn't a question for us.  Also we have friends who had insurance and it worked out for them when a vendor fell through.  I think it is a rider on our renter's policy.

  • Yea, I think we're going to get it for sure, it's just a matter of what kind of policy we get.  We'll probably go with wedsafe.com.  What did you use, Dandelion?
  • Honestly I am not sure what the policy is called.  We got it through our insurance company. NJSkylands.  I think it only cost like $200 to put on the rider.  Your renter/car insurance company may have a plan that you can add on for cheaper than a website.

  • I have to get insurance for our ceremony venue. But I'm not getting it for anything else. If something goes wrong- we'll just have to figure out a way to make it work!

  • I'm actually researching it myself this week.  With a destination wedding, so many things can go wrong and I don't want to be stuck in a strange city with no idea what to do.

  • You can be held responsible if you are hosting the party. You and your parents, if they're paying.

There is case law which I'm too lazy to go look up now. And, that is one reason I am NOT providing alcohol and do have insurance.

  • My parents aren't paying for anything but they own the house.  FI and I are footing the bill for everything.  He wants insurance regardless so we're going to look into it this weekend.  Now to decide if we just get the alcohol-related insurance or the cancellation insurance, too....hmmmm
  • You're better to be overinsured and not need it than underinsured.

However, I'm an insurance agent and believe in insuring everything. LOL
