April 2013 Weddings

Trousseau?

So, I love the idea of a trousseau (clothes wise)- getting yourself ready for your marriage, like they did way back when. It's the only time that I'm not feeling guilty for spending some money shopping!!  The Limited is having one of their buy 1 pant get 1 free today, so I just got 4 new pants for the price of 2! Next, some new tops and undergarments.. I already got dresses, some sweaters, shoes and lingerie LOL!! Anyone else hoarding new clothes for their new start? Or should I say, preparing their trousseau?

Re: Trousseau?

  • *sigh* I wish I could afford new clothes. Pretty much all our money is going into this wedding, and what is not going to the wedding is going into rent, food, gas and other bills. After the wedding there will be money for me to buy new clothes!
  • I'm not gonna lie - I had to look up that word!  But yes, I am!  I decided that I need honeymoon clothes, so I got 2 dresses.  I also bought new underwear and have shirts, pants, jeans and more dresses on the list.  And shoes.  I will buy stuff.  I decided that I needed to budget money in for "honeymoon clothes shopping", but I will wear that stuff after Hawaii too.  I am looking forward to some new outfits!  I just can't find anything I like.  I am going to check The Limited now!  I want to look great on the honeymoon and also look *upgraded* when I get back to work :)

  • Haha yes, exactly! Phoenix- I don't really have money, it's coming out of savings. But I need it. I gained weight, not much but enough to put my old pants pretty tight, and I'm tired of that- so new stuff I needed! One day when the weight is gone, I'll just take in the pants. But yes- I want to look good on the honeymoon and back at work, and, just in clothes that fit and don't make me feel like my gut is going to explode due to tight pants!! haha. And I only know the word trousseau from Anne of Green Gables :p

  • I also gained some weight but I'm determined to get it off. I did gain a lot of inches on my chest and they seem determined to stick. But I've been working out and taken off 1 1/4 inches, which thrilled me. But I do need shirts that fit and don't show off my stomach. I also have some clothes I haven't worn yet I will take on the honeymoon, and some old favs my FI loves. Maybe I'll convince my mom next weekend to go shopping while the FI is having his bachelor party.
  • Recently, one of my BMs cleaned out her closet so I scored tons of free clothes.  Luckily, she's been in FL for the last 10 years so these were all lightweight, resort-type clothes that will work perfectly in Costa Rica.

I do plan to grab some more things here and there, which I'd like to pick up at the outlets.  If I don't have time to run out there, I will just hit up Target.  They've always got great deals on warm weather stuff.

I'm good to go on lingerie, lol.  I've been collecting stuff over the year during Victoria's Secret sales.
  • I am allowing myself to splurge on a bachelorette party outfit and MAYBE a rehearsal dinner outfit if there are any good sales. I've gotta suck it up and buy some new underwear. FI reminds me everyday how boring my underwear is. Sorry, it's expensive! I haven't had the chance to update that drawer yet! I am barely keeping afloat with daily bills and then I remember I have to pay for that one other thing, oh and that thing too so I can't go too crazy when I go shopping this weekend.

  • I've been collecting clothes for the honeymoon, if that counts.  I have a white lace skirt for a dinner out and a fleece jacket for when we see the sunrise on top of the volcano!  Glad I'm not alone.

  • I really wish. I might go shopping with my sisters when they arrive a few days before the wedding and get 1 or 2 outfits, but that's about all I can afford at the moment. It doesn't help that we'll likely be making a major international move within three or four months of the wedding; I hate packing and moving stuff...
  • I've been gathering a few things over the last year for our honeymoon. I've gotten some amazing deals on sundresses and bathing suits when they went on sale at the end of last summer. I'll be able to wear that stuff this summer as well, so i guess that counts.  My girlfriends hooked me up with a bunch of new panties and and lingerie so I'm all set with that too.

Ditto. I'm glad we'll have a buffer zone for bills and such after the wedding. I MIGHT treat myself to some new clothes with our tax return, but only AFTER the wedding. Our wedding involves traveling 7 hours...so we still have to add the cost of gas, food and many nights of hotel rooms - I'm not sure I can afford to spend much else lol. Someday! :)

  • Jessalyn, we are going to Maui and doing the Road to Hana!  We are excited, too...and broke after paying for the wedding and honeymoon, which is probably why I don't have much of a trousseau!
