Re: eyes

  • I wear contacts sometimes and I think you will be fine to wear them. When I first got mine I would wear them for a few hours a day and built up to wear I could wear them all day (I used to have a hard time putting eye drops in!). I would say if you put them on before your make-up on the big day you will be fine. If your reception runs late you may get to a point when you can't stand it and take them out but at least you will be able to see your man while you walk down the aisle!!

I've worn contacts for, oh, about 20 years now.  I've worn them all day, every day since day 1.  Sometimes, I even sleep in them and wear them through the next day.  No, you're not SUPPOSED to, and your eyes get dry if you sleep in them, but it's not going to make you blind or anything.

Get the contacts now, so you're used to them by the time the wedding rolls around.  I have glasses as well and DESPISE them!  It took me about 2-3 weeks to get the hang of putting contacts in and taking them out.  Aside from that, I have ZERO regrets and would never go back to wearing glasses full time if you paid me!  Seriously..... make the switch.  You'll be glad you did.

Just for the record, when my mom had her cancer surgery, I put my contacts in when I got up at 4am and kept them in all the way through surgery, napping in the waiting room, a 9 hour surgery, 3 hours in recovery, and getting her to her room and settled in.  By the time I got home to take my contacts out, it was nearly 2am the next day and I didn't have a single problem with my contacts.  However, they do make special "rewetting drops" - which is basically like Visene for people who wear contacts.  (You can't use Visene if you wear contacts.  If you do, you have to wait something like 12 hours before you put your contacts in.)  But the rewetting drops will take care of any dryness issues that might pop up, although I've never once had the need for them.

  • I wear contacts all day every day, except for this week since I have some random swelling on my eyelids...and like ChiGirl, I HATE wearing glasses so it's been a frustrating week for me.

Get them now.  Buy rewetting drops for contacts (I use Visine's) if you're afraid of dryness.  Seriously, I forget they're even in most of the time.  I was like you; I only needed glasses to drive/distances but when I went to college I realized I needed to wear them more often.  So, I've worn them for almost 10 years now with no major problems.  And I've slept in them, too, but I don't recommend that! (mine literally feel like they're glued to my eyeballs after waking up!)

  • You can totally wear contacts all day, you just need to get used to them.  I've been wearing them for 15 years.  Go to your eye doctor now so you can see what works for you.  I had to try a couple of different brands of contacts and different solutions before i found something that worked.

    Good luck!

  • I've worn contacts for the past 10 years and wear them all day. Mine are good to leave in for up to three days but they usually feel dry after waking up so I take them out every night. I second the rewetting drops and carry a case in the event you need to take them out. If I cry with mine in, they feel a little weird, just need to take them out and pop them back in. They take a little practice so start early.

  • Like everyone else has said you can totally wear contacts all day.  If you have sensitive eyes it will just be a matter of finding the right brand for you.  I have worn contacts for about 15 years and went through a phase about 8 years ago where my eyes just couldn't deal with my contacts after a few hours.  I switched to the Night and Day contacts as they were the most breathable at the time (I don't sleep in them but the are FDA approved to keep in for 30 days and nights straight) and it fixed the problem. There are so many types of contacts out there now that pretty much everyone can find something that works.

The trick is to just find a brand that works for you.  Your eye dr will be able to suggest a brand and I know that anytime I have switched brands they always give you a free trial pair to make sure that it works for you.

  • Yes, you can wear contacts all day. It sounds like your correction is small, so you should be able to do a soft lense. They have great ones that are supposed to retain their moisture better than older generations. Go to the optometrist now so you can get used to them. You'll need to build up a tollerance. First time I wore contacts it was for four hours, and then I added a couple hours a day. I have a really high correction (can't see much more than right in front of my nose), and asstigmasim, so I wear hard lenses. In the long run, they're a lot cheaper, because you only have to replace them when the correction is no longer useful or if you have a warp or a knick, not every day or every month. The downside is that they are reportedly not a comfortable, but I can easily wear mine up to 14+ hours, and I can use regular eyedrops because the contacts won't loose moisture or do wierd things because they're hard plastic. And just for fun/gross out factor, the reason you "get used" to your contacts, especially hard ones, is because you're building up tiny caluses on your eye balls! Cool, right :/
