April 2013 Weddings

Long Distance

My fiance and I are so excited about the planning of our wedding, but I also have this massive sense of dread that it will all be for naught. We are long distance (CALI/LONDON), so the threat of his not being able to secure the fiance visa plagues me all the time. We want to have a great wedding, but distance and time are extremely frustrating parts of this situation. How do I plan when we won't even know if he got the visa for at least 6 months?!?!

Oh stresssssss

  • I'm sure you probably don't want to hear this, but why not wait until you have his visa secured? It doesn't take a year to plan a wedding. While you're waiting, you can save money, but don't set a date or make any huge plans until you hear the visa got approved.

You can plan a wedding in six months if you still want April of 2013. :)

  • I definitely understand! There's the extra added stress of being long distance, and the visa just adds a whole mess of things. My FI is American and British, and he lives in Germany right now, and I live in North Dakota! LDRs are hard, but in the end it'll be worth it right? :) We're going through the whole discussion with the fiance visa, but in reverse. It's about me getting into the UK, and it's hard to think about moving there. I want too, but at the same time with the FI visa you aren't allowed to work! And that's definitely no bueno.

But in the meantime, you can do little things like deciding on your theme/colors, what kind of flowers you want, your cake, whatever you want your centerpieces to be...

But def keep us posted. Good luck. :)

My Fiance and I were long distance for 4 years and we wanted to share some of our insights.  Take a look at some of the tips we have for other coupls going through the same thing.   PS my sister who lives in Chicago is currently dating a boy from North Hampton England.  its been a year and a half for them and they are still making it work.
