April 2013 Weddings

Anyone ever grown wheat grass?

The centerpieces I LOVE involve wheat grass.  The florist wants a phenomenal amount for what seems so simple to DIY.

So.... has anyone ever grown wheat grass?  How hard is it?  How long would I have to plant it in advance if I wanted it the length shown above?

Re: Anyone ever grown wheat grass?

  • I have not done this yet but I am going to do so for my wedding as well.  I plan on doing a trial run a couple months prior to the wedding but I found this tutorial online and plan on going off of it.  I found some cheap wheat grass seeds on Amazon and hope its still there and (still cheap) when it comes time to buy!

If you google how to grow wheat grass you will find everything from youtube videos to blogs to step by step web instructions.

It sounds easy enough....famous last words right?! :-)

  • I am not good with plants, but I had no problem with wheat grass when I lived in an apartment that actually had natural sun. It's prone to mold if you don't have good drainage and air circulation. I think to get to that length it took around 2 weeks maybe 3, I was in not very sunny or warm upstate NY at the time so it might grow faster for you. You can trim it if it gets too long.
