Houston has a problem...

Hello Ladies! My name is Danielle and my fiance's name is Zach. We are getting married on June 19th, 2010 in New Iberia, LA.We live in Houston, but are getting married in LA because the majority of my fiance's family is over there and plus, I fell in love with the venue :)I was just wondering if there are any other ladies on here that live in or near New Iberia, including Lafayette?I'd love to get referrals for bakers, florists and a DJ in the area. Thanks everyone!

Hi Danielle, My name is Stephanie, my fiance and I are getting married in New Iberia also!  We are getting married on May 1, 2010. I refer DJ Big Al from 99.1 KXKC, he has a myspace page where you can reach him or on the KXKC website. For bakers, I would refer Virginia's...I don't have her contact info, but I can get it for you.  If you need anything else let me know!

I live in New Orleans but I'm getting married in Lafayette. My baker is Two Sweet Sisters at www.twosweetsisters.com (they're in St. Martinville) and my florist/decorator is Jim Morvant. All the DJs I looked at were from Baton Rouge (Xpert DJ and Complete Music) but I ended up going with the Robbie Bush Band. Another Lafayette baker is Kathleen Short with Kathleen Short and Sweet (very well known, has been doing this for 20+ years). Hope this helps!

You could also as the people at Rip Van Winkle for vendor recommendations. They do this so much they could tell you which vendors have worked there, who is easiest to work with, etc. I know they have a lot of brochures and business cards too for vendors. Ask if they can mail you some.

Danielle- I'm am also getting married at Rip Van Winkle,on May 28,2010.  Just tolet you know I am using Chef Bobby and Dot for catering..they are out of Kaplan and are amazing! http://www.chefbobbyanddot.com/ is their website. As of right now I am getting their basic package for 150 people and it's right at 2,000. We willprobably add more to it later, but they are very reasonable and are very nice too!I saw that Stephanie said she was going with Virginias cakes, which is probably who I will be going with you too,she is probably the chespest around and can anything you want also for a reasonable cost. Those are the only vendors I have looked at so far,but I will let you know more as I plan more,if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Hey Danielle,I live in Baton Rouge but am getting married in Crowley, LA (about 20 mins West of Lafayette), so most of my vendors are from Lafayette.  For the cake, I would definitely recommend Crystal Weddings.  Their website is www.crystalweddings.com and Ms. Mary and Crystal will take care of you!!!  I'm having a hexagonal 4 tier cake (plus an extra top layer for us) that's got a lot of decoration, and it came out to be just under $1,000 for the cake.I saw someone recommended Chef Bobby and Dot above...my cousin married in April of this year and used them.  She really liked them but everyone I spoke to who attended the reception was less than impressed by the food.  It was "just OK."  Take it from a bunch of Cajuns, "just OK" is not something I want people to say for the food I shelled out big bucks for! Now, a friend of mine got married last December and used Brent's catering out of Grand Coteau, LA (http://www.brentscatering.com).  Not too far from you and I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND their catering.  It was fabulous!!!!  The absolute BEST catering I've ever tasted.  We all went back for seconds!  LOL  Don't worry, they could have fed an army with all that food!  Her cake was also made by them, and it was the best wedding cake I've ever had...yet.  ;-)Unfortunately I can't use them since my reception venue stipulates that I MUST use their catering....BOO.  But it'll be worth it in the end.If you need their contact info I have a business card somewhere.  Just post back and I'll send it to 'ya!Good luck with your planning!!Kelly
