Louisiana-Baton Rouge

Venue Suggestions

We are looking for a rustic ceremony and reception venue in the Baton Rouge area.  We would like to be as close to BR as possible but are willing to travel a little, probably no more than an hour away.  Does anyone have any sugestions?

Thanks!

Re: Venue Suggestions

  • You could check out The Cabin in Burnside, LA. It's about 20 minutes or so outside BR. Went to a lovely wedding there a few years ago.

You might also want to look into The Rural Life Museum and Burden Gardens. It's very rustic and beautiful and there is a small chapel onsite.

Also, Mount Hope Plantation off Highland Road does weddings, but it might have to be outside. Apparently they are now owned by Lake House reception center. I've been to both venues for weddings and they are both nice. I remember Mount Hope being more on the rustic side, but that may have changed.

I would also look into Magnolia Mound off Nicholson. They have a barn called the LaGrange that they use for weddings.

The LSU Hilltop Arboretum also comes to mind. Not sure what it would be like for a wedding, though.

    Good Luck!!
  • Thank you for your help.  I will look into The Cabin.

We have ruled out the Rural Life Museum already due to cost vs what they offer ratio and just didn't connect with Hilltop when we went out there.  Magnolia Mound and Lake House are owned by my fiance's ex-inlaws.  He actually was the manager there for several years.  So, those are most definitely out!  haha

We LOVE Magnolia Mound but we would like to get married in the Fall and they don't rent out on any Saturday that is scheduled with an LSU home game.  They are too close to the university and traffic would be a disaster.  And since the 2013 schedule isn't set yet, we can't book a date and start booking vendors because we could get bumped.  Stupid football!!

If you run across anything else, please let me know.  I would really just like something a bit different, even if its not a traditional venue.  And I definitely don't want to have to pay $15k for just venue and food when I know I can do the whole kit n caboodle for less than that if I can get the right venue (which is what makes Magnolia Mound so great.  And again I say:  STUPID FOOTBALL!!!)

Have you looked at St. Franisville? The Glynns looks rustic.

What about Alligator Bayou in Pairieville? Not sure how to get in touch with them, though.

I also found Albany Plantation. It looks pretty and rustic and is located outside of Hammond.

This also looks like a great site to browse. Lots of historic spots!

  • We will definitely look over those sites and see if anything sparks our interest.  I have contacted Albany Plantation and am waiting for some information.  The photos I have seen have really peaked my interest.

    Thanks again y'all.
  • Try looking at Stage 1. That is where I am getting married. It is ceremony and reception and for a good price. It is on the traditional side but it's very pretty!
  • Look at Oakleigh House of Receptions. It is about 25-30 miles from Baton Rouge, past Denham Springs on Hwy 16. The website is oakleighhouseofreceptions.com. It is rustic yet too much and it has a outdoor patio.
