Invitations

do I really need fancy invitations

Re: Invitations

  • I love paper details and used to sell wedding invitations, so it was important to me, but it is an easy way to cut the budget if you don't care.  Personally I feel like invitations give people the first impression of your wedding.
  • Our invties were nice, but not super fancy, I think having quilty invites is important, but I don't think they have to be the top of the top invites. We probably be the middle of the road.

Not at all - prioritize whats important to spend your budget $ on and use the resources (especially these boards) to find inexpensive ways to accomplish the rest!  Invites were somewhat important to me - I wanted them to be unique to my wedding but still be very affordable, yet I had no skills (or interest) to put them together myself. I found a freelance designer - Jennifer - metzcrawford@hotmail.com - that would create me an invitation suite that was super reasonable! Win Win! HTH!

  • I'm getting mine from DB because I get a discount there if I get my dress at DB. I also get discounts on the BP dresses and the tux rentals at MW. Like PP said, it gives the first impression of your wedding, so if you're having a formal affair you're going to want more formal invites. Shop around, they have some for a decent price. Also, don't forget that you don't need an invite for every guest, just every party attending, and adult children get their own invite even if they're living at home.

We're getting these without the ribbon and with brown text:

  • Invites were VERY important to us.  They were the first things that our guest saw that were related to our wedding and really set the tone.  We went to Scriptura on Magazine and used Tupelo Honey for calligraphy.  We were complimented by EVERYONE on them and were even told that they were the nicest invites that some have ever seen. That is exactly what we were going for.  This is a personal decision, though and if it's not important to you, then go with your gut.  I just didn't want our event to be associated with a cheap 50$ print off piece of crap put together with Elmer's glue from the local craft store.

  • I disliked what my mom got for me, but they were nice and fancy.

I will say to not underestimate your own abilities if you have a printer, though.

We purchased some nice pearlescent-finish paper from Office Max, and some red grosgrain ribbon from a craft store and were able to print our wedding programs for $70 total, while they would've cost about $300 online, from what we were looking at. That's not to say that wedding programs are the same as invitations, but still... that kind of quantifies the difference that putting in your own labor makes. Especially if you're trying to cut costs.

  • Thanks! I want nice invitation. My brother's invitations were $1000. I just hope everyone isn't expecting the same type of invitations.
  • You can get 100 invites for around $200 or less. I'm skipping escort cards and table numbers since I'm not having a seating chart.
