Sept 28? or Oct 26?

What date would you pick? Why?

I am thinking weather may be nicer Oct 26 but I really don't want there to be any kind of Halloween decor in or around me wedding...Are there huge events or conferences I am unaware of that make either of these dates horrible?

Re: Sept 28? or Oct 26?

  • I think they may both be less than ideal.  We also wanted Fall, 2013 and our planner gave us a bunch of dates we should avoid.  I seem to remember both of those weekends being on the list.  But all things being equal, and if you're fine with them both, I guess I'd go for the October date for better weather.
  • November is actually a good month, many conferences are over with and hotels prices aren't as bad as September and October quotes but you still definitely have that fall feeling.
  • I was in between both dates also and went with September 28th after doing some research. There will be an LSU game but i don't know if it will be home yet. The weather is getting cooler by that time of the month and hotel block rates aren't so bad, even though there is a convention in town.
  • thanks for the feedback! Maybe I will look into November dates... Would November 2nd still be too close to Halloween/Voodoo fest?

  • We did Oct 23 of last year. It was the weekend before voodoo so that was NBD, but it was parents week for the college and a saints home game that weekend so it was pretty busy. We booked before either of those dates were released though, so it really is hard to say. That said, it didn't seem to affect us too badly, and the weather was absolutely perfect.
  • I would think if you're after Halloween that shouldn't be a problem. It seems like there's always something in New Orleans though. My date is Nov. 3 (of this year) and I don't think Halloween is an issue but I found out well after picking this date that the LSU-Bama game (home) is happening that evening. I think there's also a home Saints game that Monday. These things were announced before I made my hotel blocks, and I hurried to set up the blocks as soon as I found out and was still able to get good rates.
  • I don't think there is ever a good day to get married in New Orleans that is free of festivals and conventions.  My wedding date was the day after the start of Passover, the day before Easter, the day of the Crescent City Classic and there were three Easter parades the following day!
  • We are getting married November 23 of next year. I can't think off hand of any festivals or anything that is that weekend. It is the weekend before thanksgiving.
  • The weather is better in Oct.
  • I would avoid the Oct 26 date because of Voodoo fest.  It's usually the last weekend in October.  We were hoping to do a staycation bachelorette party that weekend (this year) and couldn't find any affordable hotel rooms (like, normally $150 rooms were over $500, two months in advance)- I'm guessing a similar thing could happen to any of your guests that miss the deadline for room blocks or if your blocks sell out.  Lots of people come to town for Voodoo and Halloween so it's hard to get flights as well.

Early November is usually really beautiful weather in New Orleans, especially if you want to spend some time outdoors for ceremony or photos.

Late September may also work - football schedules are the biggest conflicts I can think of (you should check with convention & visitors office about conventions), but also note that you will still be in hurricane season in September.  And it can still be really hot, if you are thinking outdoors wedding.

My wedding is in November 2013 and there are conferences every weekend plus Saints and Tulane football games going on, plus add in all the usual festivals. My wedding is the weekend before the Annual Bayou Classic (football game between two historically black universities) and there is a city wide American Medical Association Conference that weekend. Hotel blocks are a beast to lock down right now. November 23 is the only weekend with hotel rates in the $100's and the other weekends are in the $200 and $300 range a night.<div>

I was worried About Voodoo fest but when I inquired with locals they seemed to think that it would be October 31-November 2 since Halloween falls on a Thursday and Voodoo Fest usually starts on a Thursday? Does that seem right? I am not going back and forth from October 26 to November 2 contingent on that but since the tour schedule for 2013 isn't out there is no way to know for sure :(

Hmm, I'm not sure.  I would email the Convention & Visitor's Bureau, also maybe go to the Voodoo website and see if anyone answers an email there.  I just went to their website and it's starting on the Friday before Halloween this year.  Unless they are adding a day it wouldn't start on Thursday (and they generally do it before Halloween, not after). I'm betting they already have the date picked as the discount tickets for the following year have been going on sale right at the conclusion of the previous year's festival for the last few years.  If you don't like Halloween stuff I'd avoid both of those weekends surrounding Halloween though.  It's a pretty big deal here.
