I am sorry your friend had such a bad experience. I too had a bad experience with her. I waited 2 months for a response....then when I emailed again I didn't hear from her until 1 week before my wedding when she emailed to ask if we were still on.  Not a good way to run a business at all! It is a shame because she seems to be a great MUA when it comes to the makeup part of it!Needless to say after the lack of response the begin with I went with someone else.

That is scary....I do have her booked for my wedding in 3 weeks...and this makes me really nervous!!!! Were you ever able to get a hold of her?  Did she ever give a reson as to why she did not show up?  Just wondering...

She said she had a family emergency, but never told us, only the replacement she sent, nor did she give anymore details. Heather sent someone else to do our hair who was equally as upset as we were. The girl she sent was great, but more expensive, late (b/c she had late notice) and had no idea that she was being sent to do hair for 8 bridesmaids, the bride, and mothers. The girl she sent said she has known Heather to do this before, and did not know what Heather would have done if she couldn't get in touch with the replacement girl (sorry I forgot her name). My friend had paid the 100 deposit and had a practice session with her. We could not get in touch with her by cell phone.

i had a similar experience with heather at my friend's wedding. she had a few assistants who came on time but did not know where heather herself was. they started doing bridesmaids hair and makeup while the bride waited. she called heather and never got a reply. the assistants had no clue where she was, and the bride was obviously very stressed. heather eventually showed up, i think it was 2 hours later than she said she would. there was time to do the brides hair and makeup so everything ended up ok, but basically she lied about what time she would arrive and never gave any reason.yes, having assistants or a replacement there is obviously better than nothing, but a bride deserves to have or hair/ makeup done by the same person that did their trial- or at least get a phone call!this definitely sounds like a pattern.she did a great job on hair and makeup so it's a shame that she doesn't handle the business aspect in the same way.

Well, at least she did send a replacement. And of course there can always be an emergency that we dont have control over.  But still, it sounds like more than one person has had this experience with her...and even her replacement said it happens a lot!?My wedding is in 3 weeks, I have her booked, signed contract and all for me, my bridesmaids, mother and MOG.  I'm kinda stressed now.  :( Do you guys think I should contact her and tell her my worries/concerns about this?  Or just keep my fingers crossed and hope everything works out?

It's not like we had any idea there would be anyone but Heather there, and then she didn't even call to let the bride know that something had come up. We all have families and emergencies, but the courtesy of a phone call is quick and simple. So Heather got her $100 deposit (also which was supposed to go towards the wedding day total), but did not show up. The replacement girl was apologetic and said that Heather has called her at the last minute on multiple occasions. Sorry if anyone thought my previous post was slander, but what I said was true. The bride had a contract, Heather did not show and we could not get in touch with her. Not what any bride needs 5 hours prior to her wedding. My goal was to give other brides a warning about her shady business tactics. About calling her, I would hate to piss her off before my wedding and then perhaps have some vengeful behavior. Maybe just a confirmation/reminder a week before? I was anxious on my wedding day, and I did not have a single thing go wrong. No bride deserves unneeded stress!!

Thank you, DonnastbK, for being a voice of reason.  While I would be hesitant to hire a vendor with numerous complaints, I think lorynm is equally guilty in leading us to believe that "her friend" was left with no MUA in place, which was obviously not the case.  The contracts I have with my vendors clearly address the issue of a "plan B" in terms of unforseen problems.  No one can control family emergencies, sickness, etc.

I also had a bad experience with Heather. I booked her for my wedding 3 months ago. i was in constant communication with her and she stated that she and another person were going to be at my mom's house for a certain time. At 1:30 3 girls show up, I don't know who they are, but assume they are hair and makeup. They stated that Heather was running a bit late but will be here to do my hair and makeup. Heather showed up 3 hours LATE!. One of the other girls began to do my hair still stating that heather will be there to do my airbrushed makeup! She finally showed, I was late and rushed to take my pictures. I really  liked the makeup girl she sent as my girls looked great. They other 2 hair girls she sent didn't seem like they knew to much of style. They burnt my mom's forehead before the wedding. I would recommend everyone I dealt with for my wedding except her. I would recomend the makeup girl, Ashley. I don't have her name, because I was too busy getting ready when they bolted!

I looked into booking her for my engagement pictures, but never received an email back- I guess that was a blessing in disguise! I ended up going with Gwen from SWAK, and she was amazing, and an absolute professional. :)

ln1919-- I wouldn't worry about Heather for your wedding. I used her for my June 19th wedding, as well as my bridal portraits, and I thought she was awesome. Not only was she there and on time but she finished way before I thought so we had tons of extra time to do pictures. My makeup (as well as my bridesmaids and moms) really looked amazing and "flawless". I'm really picky about makeup and I thought it was perfect. I'm sorry the bride on here had a bad experience, but I had a great one with Heather. She's also very sweet and I'm sure she felt really bad for the bride that she had to cancel on.

I don't post on here very often anymore, but it seems like nothing has changed with Heather in the past two years (when I had issues with her before my trial).  She blew off my trial not once, but TWICE - no phone call, no nothing.  We had a signed contract (which said nothing about her not showing up), and she had a deposit from me.  She ignored my telephone calls for weeks, and the only way I ever got her to answer the phone to return my deposit was when I called her from a blocked number.  Even  after I demanded my deposit back, and traveled to her to pick up the check, she offered no explanation or apologies for her unprofessionalism.  I don't want to interfere with someone's livelihood, but I do think it is necessary that brides make informed choices when it comes to their vendors.  I find it strange that she is so responsible to some brides, and completely ignores some other brides.  It's my understanding that she has had some severe personal problems that she claims to have worked out, but i don't know, given all of these mixed reviews, that i would trust her with my wedding.
  • I wanted to add a recent post to this thread to warn others as well.  I am an out of town bride and scheduled my wedding and trial with Heather.  I drove to New Orleans for the trial which had been confirmed by her assistant and no one showed and she did not answer the phone when I called.  I had to drive back home without a trial appointment.

I did not get a real apology or any explanation around why Heather just didnt show up or answer my calls.

Luckily I did hear back from her assistant and was able to get my deposit back and cancel my contract.

It is not worth the risk to book with someone who thinks it is appropriate to repeatedly not show up for thier clients.
  • I have extremely oily skin. Do you think this person could make me make up look flawless? Thank you
  • There is something very strange going on here...this thread is 4 years old and it looks like someone put some random comment so that it would be pushed to the top of the queue again.
For what its worth I used Heather for my January wedding and she was on time (she got there before I did and started my bridesmaids) and everyone looked great.
  • I've used Heather for everything wedding related so far and she's also doing my wedding this month. She has been so professional so far so I second Erin.
  • Ive heard these kind of comments for years when we planned one of my daughters wedding...when she shows she does great work buuuuuut from all Ive read there are many times she pulls the no show, or sends a sub or will not respond.....might explain why some of her former staff left and formed their own business
