crawfish boil in City Park/ affordable rehearsal meal

Looking for an affordable alternative to a rehearsal dinner, as we are having a welcome party for all the out-of-town guests (90% of our guest list) the evening before the wedding.  We were thinking of a rehearsal lunch for just the wedding party and immediate family.  The budget is getting tight, so I wanted to see if anyone had experience hosting a party at City Park?  My FILs love their crawfish boils, so I thought that might be a good idea.  

Are there any permits required to have an informal gathering at City Park?  Not looking to reserve any of their formal venues, just bringing our own food and equipment and hanging out for a few hours.  

If anyone has other creative ideas to keep the costs down on a rehearsal lunch or places I should check out, let me know!!

    I know that the pavillions and picnic centers are available for rent for parties in City Park and Audubon Park, so I'm not sure if you could just show up and throw a big party.  I would just give them a call to make sure.

    Just in case anyone else was considering a City Park crawfish boil, preparing seafood on the premises is not allowed except for licensed restaurants or catering companies that provide cleanup services.  No self boils or frying, since I guess they've had a few bad experiences with lots of trash resulting from them. 

    So on that note - anyone know of a caterer who can do crawfish boils? :)

    TeamBLT - If you were able to find a solution, please post or send me a personal note.  I'm in the very early stages of planning a wedding there at City Park but as 90% of my family will also be from out of town, and new to crawfish boils, I LOVE this idea and have thought about doing something similar to introduce them.  I would love to hear any information from you and how it turned out!  Thank you!

    Pigeon Catering does crawfish boils and I'm sure other caterers do as well.  I've been to a crawfish boil rehearsal dinner in Audubon Park and it was a lot of fun.
