No flowers?

I was wondering if anyone has been to a wedding where the bridal party did not have flowers.  I found a really great gem/brooch bouquet on etsy so I won't be having a bridal flower bouquet, and it got me thinking....do the bridesmaids necessarily need flowers?  Has anyone been to a wedding where they didn't have anything?  Our colors are lavender and black and the guys are going to have silk lavender handkerchiefs (sp?) nicely folded in their suit pocket instead of bouts.  We will still do MOG/MOB pin on corsages.  It isn't necessarily a money saving technique, I just don't see the need for them.  Would my girls look silly not carrying something?  Advice please?  THANKS!

    They don't have to carry anything, but I do think it's nice to have something to hold (ie., have something to do with your hands) when standing in front of people for a long period of time.  I know I always feel a little awkward just standing there.  But, hey, guys do it at weddings and the world doesn't end. 

    If you're on the fence about the hassle or expense it would be easy enough to just run to the store and get a couple stems of white hydrangeas and the girls could carry one or two tied with lavender ribbon.  Easy peezy.

    My cousin's bridesmaids did not have flowers, but they had some kind of woodsy bocquet with like skinny twigs with a few flowers throughout.  It looked so cute.

    I'm lavender and silver, and I'm getting married after dark in January.  For a while, I was really thinking about having my girls carry up candles since it'll be dark outside the windows of the church.  I'm probably going to book a florist, but I still haven't totally let the idea of candles go.  I think it would be really pretty at night, esp. with some ribbon or some designs on the glass.  Anyway, just an idea!!

    I don't really think they need to carry anything but if you wanted there are plenty of other things than flowers they could carry... PM me and I can send you some pics I have for ideas!
