The Federal Ballroom food question

Hi friends - The fiancee and I just got back from our tours of over 14 venues (a detailed review of each is coming post my dissertation defense in 2 weeks).

That being said although I LOVED the person we toured with (she was very calm, did not pressure us and was very professional) their food didn't seem impressive.

The fiancee and I are having a destination wedding with approximately 80-125 guests in New Orleans and we both LOVE to eat!

Has anyone been to a wedding there and/or had their wedding their and could tell me about the food.

THANKS

Re: The Federal Ballroom food question

  • I attended a wedding there back in October and I thought it was good.  It's your usual reception food, but everything was fresh, hot and flavorful.  I've had bad reception food and this did not qualify.  I'm going to another wedding there in March and they said that the caterer was working with them on some options specifically for them so maybe you should talk with them and see if they can personalize the menu.  I like the Federal Ballroom.  They are professional and the woman who coordinates the events is completely on top of things and very organized.  I went there to bring some things and set them up for the first wedding I went to there and she was awesome!!

Frankly, FI and I were a bit underwhelmed with their "in-house" caterer as well... they definitely weren't terrible but just not "for us". However, the name of their caterer is Capdebosq catering, and if you do a quick board search back you will find many raves from brides past who have used them. I strongly suggest, if you can make the trip in, attending one of their tastings to decide for yourself. They have them about once a month.

I was fortunate enough to book with them prior to the new restriction of having their "preferred" caterer.... however I do recall the option of paying a fee to use an outside caterer being talked about by a friend who went and looked at the venue? Perhaps that could be a good option for you if you're sold on the venue but not the food.

    HTH!
  • Thanks so much! E-mailed and they will allow outside caterers. Thanks friends. The fiancee and I like to eat and are specifically coming to NOLA to eat =)
  • We used Capdeboscq catering, and the food was fantastic. We had rave reviews from our guests both from here and OOT.

  • another option to research: New Orleans Catering. The level of service is seriously unparalleled. Not only did they cook and servce our food, they decorated my tables, packed our gifts into our car, gave us a bottle of champagne and a box of food to eat later that night, and so on and so on. We even had our own butler to make sure I ate something. I can't say enough...obviously.
